Life Begins
Upon being born into my family, being surrounded by their words and speech, I learned my first words and sounds. -
Bedtime Stories
Throughout my childhood I was read to every night, usually from my children's Bible. -
Pre- School
I entered Preschool where I started to develop a written form for my language. -
Library
I have been involved with our local volunteer library as long as I can remember. I always took part in their summer reading program, and usually won prizes for reading the most pages in my age group. I also volunteered there throughout high school. The bulk of my recreational reading has been done through this library. -
Car Rides
In Elementary School on the way to school my older brother read to me from the Chronicles of Narnia. -
Vending Machines
My father owned vending machines, every week, I would help him count money. I learned quickly how to count by 25's, knowing that 4 quarters equaled one dollar. -
My Faith
I really started to take my faith seriously in Middle School. My faith affect what and how I communicate, as well as brings it's own set of vocabulary. It also influences what I read and write. -
Timber Ridge
At 16, I got a job at a home for mentally and physically handicapped adults. With this job came a new set of language that involved a lot of new medical terminology. -
Rock Climbing
I got really into rock climbing in college with climbing comes a whole new set of words like " red point", "quick draw", "beta", and "take."
