Rosa Parks arrested for refusing to give up her sent on a public bus
At the time Afriican-Americans and whites were segerated. Rosa Parks was already a civil rights activist. African-Americans were forced to sit in the front and white people get to sit in the front. The thing about that was that if all of the white section was filled up then a white person was elidgible to take a black persons seat. -
Governor Faubus of Arkansas brings in national guard to prevent black students from going into a white school.
The governor didnt allow intergation. THe president forced him to let african-americans to be welcomed in the schools there. The group of kids trying to get in the school was named Little Rock Nine. -
Sit in at Woolworth's lunch counter
Four African-Americans sat at lunch counters in Greensbro, North Carolina. If they sat at the white counter then they couldn't get served. The African-Americans had to get beat and broken and they couldn't fight back. -
Freedom riders bus burned
This was when white and african-american civil rights activists started freedom rides. They would protest segregation at bus terminals. White people were frustrated with this so they burnt the bus and beat the passengers inside the bus. (mostly african-americans). -

It was a peaceful march. The african-americans got beat, got attacked with water hoses, and got attacked by attack dogs. -
MLK writes a letter from Birmingham jail
The letter he wrote was to other christian churches. He told them that all of the black-white segregation isn't christianity. -
March on Washington
The march was led by 250,000 people. The march was the biggest civil rights movement in history. This was also the place that MLK gave his "I have a dream" speech. -

He had a dream that blacks and whites we would be equal,. He had a dream that people would judge his children by character; not skin color. -
John F. Kennedy assassinated
JFK started civil rights act. Supposibly killed by Lee Harvey Oswald. -
Lyndon B. Johnson becomes president
He was the vice president to JFK. He becane president on the Air Force 1. Might of been apart of JFK's assassination. -

This was also called desegregation busing. -
24th amendment passed
This amendment ended poll taxes. This also end other discriminate actions. -
Civil rights bill passed
This gave equal rights to race, religion, and or sex. This was signed to law by Lyndon B. Johnson. -
Malcolm X dies
He was strongly for the blacks. He wanted to violently move to peace. The cause pf death was assassination. -
Voting rights act of 1965
This gave african-amercians the right to vote. Even though this act was in place Texas and other staes prevented blacks from voting. -
Watts riot
The riot was in Los Angeles. There were 34 deaths during the riot and most of the people were african-american. -
Martin Luth KIng Jr.
The day before he got killed he said im probably going to die during a speech the day before he was killed. He died on his hotel balcony. He was shot through his cheek.
