    Nikolina Kamenova Dobreva was born on January 9, 1989, in Sofia, Bulgaria. At the age of two she moved to Canada, and was raised in the city of Toronto, Ontario. She speaks Canadian English, Canadian French and is still fluent in Bulgarian. Her parents are called Kamen Dobrev and Mihaela Radeva Dobreva, her mother is an artist and her father is a computer scientist, and her older brother is called Aleksandar Dobrev.

    She lived with her family in Scarborough, a difficult suburb of Toronto, her family moved a lot in the early years. When she was ten, she started competing in rhythmic gymnastics and therefore had to make a difficult choice between gymnastics and acting. She had the opportunity to develop her passion and talent for the arts with dance, gymnastics, music, theater and visual arts classes.

    Nina studied at J. B. Tyrrell Sr. Public School and took theater classes at the Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts in Scarborough. She signed up for private acting classes with Dean Armstrong of Armstrong Acting Studios. After that, she was ready to start her career, with agents and several auditions scheduled. In 2007, she enrolled at Ryerson University with the intention of studying sociology. In 2008, she left college to focus on her acting career.

    It was her modeling work that led her to make commercials, which turned into auditions. In the United States, she became popular with her role as Mia Jones, the teenage single mother in Degrassi: The Next Generation, where she acted from the sixth through the ninth season of the series. In 2009, she was one of the protagonists of "The Vampire Diaries", a supernatural television series, produced by The CW and based on the eponymous literary saga by Lisa Jane Smith, which became a success.

    In 2011, he presented We Day with Joe Jonas, an annual event organized by the Canadian charity "Free The Children". In 2012, she served as Candice in The Advantages of Being Invisible. The series premiered on January 10, 2019, but due to low ratings it was canceled in May of the same year. In July 2019, she was announced as the protagonist and executive producer of the independent comedy Sick Girl. In August 2020, Nina was announced as the protagonist of the Netflix movie Love Hard.
