the First Fleet
On Sunday the 13th of may many small ships set off of England carring over 1,500 passengers and found the country we know today called Australia. On the ships 17 of the crew died or left the ship. Captain Auther Phillip was in charge of the ships. The ships was sent to New south wales and other places in Australia making new colonies and settling in one place and packing up and moving to a different spot. The ships were given the name the first fleet and that is the name we still know today. -

gold rush
The first gold rush in Australian history began 1851 where a man called Edward Hargraves made a important discovery of gold in Bathurst in New South Wales at a site Edward called Ophir. Eight months later in a place called ballarat gold was discoverd causing a large amount of Prospectors . That was when Australia’s population tripled. In the year 1860 there was six british colonies. Laws were also set down by the british Parlermeint. At the start of this most of the colonies didn’t have a lot to do with each other. But a telagraph made all the colonies linked beause of the idea of joining ad creating Australia. They created a nation that was stronger than indavitual colonies.
