In the Army of West Tennessee, Sherman was assigned to serve with Grant. -

Taking over Atlanta
On September 1864, Sherman burned Atlanta to the ground. He then proceeded with 60,000 men his "March to the Sea". -

In 1869, Grant became president and Sherman took the position as general commander of the U.S. Army. -

Sherman retired from the Army on February 1884 -
Death
On February 14, 1891, Sherman died in New York City. He was then buried at Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis.
