    Jenna's First Year of Life: Trust vs. Mistrust
    Jenna was born on May 12 in the year of 1992. A couple weeks after Jenna is born, she has been taken care of by her mother primarily. In Erikson's first stage, trust vs. mistrust, Jenna will have hopes that she will feel secure with her mother as her caregiver (trust), or she will not feel comfortable (mistrust).
  • Toddler Years: Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt

    Toddler Years: Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt
    Jenna is able to sit up on her own! She is feeling invincible. In Erikson's second stage, toddlers are able to do certain things on their own (autonomy), and feel shame and doubt if they are unable to accomplish it.

    Headed Off to Preschool: Initiative vs. Guilt
    In preschool, Jenna is able to perform common tasks and work with others as a group. In Erikson's third stage, initiative vs. guilt, children learn how to initiate tasks on their own (initiative), and harsh criticism from peers or adults can result in feeling guilt.
  • Early Adolescence: Industry vs. Inferiority

    Early Adolescence: Industry vs. Inferiority
    Jenna is now in elementary school. During this time, Jenna is understanding more about her culture and the norms, as well as learning more skills in school. In Erikson's fourth stage, industry vs. inferiority, children learn more about their environment and certain skills (industry), feelings of inferiority arise if they are unable to achieve these goals.

  • Teen Years: Identity vs. Role Confusion

    Teen Years: Identity vs. Role Confusion
    Jenna is now in high school, she is meeting new friends, and learning more about herself. Jenna is developing a sense of self, but at times feels very self-conscious and confusion as to who she is. In Erikson's fifth stage, identity vs. role confusion, late adolescents learn more about the changes in themselves, such as puberty. They will also develop their own values, attitudes, and adult concepts (identity). Teens may also feel confused about who they are and what they believe.(Role confusion)
  • Young Adult: Intimacy vs. Isolation

    Young Adult: Intimacy vs. Isolation
    Jenna is now a young adult, and has met a wonderful man named Adam. Jenna and Adam spend a lot of time together and build emotional intimacy with each other. In Erikson's sixth stage, young adults may find love with another (intimacy), or choose to isolate themselves and be more independent in their early adult years (isolation).
  • Adult Jenna: Generativity vs. Stagnation

    Adult Jenna: Generativity vs. Stagnation
    Jenna and Adam are married! They now have their first child, May. Jenna is enjoying being a mom, as well as a loving wife. In Erikson's seventh stage, generativity vs, stagnation, there is an opportunity to guide the next generation with positivity and caring for others (generativity), and there is stagnation where there is no contribution to society.
