Unfortunately, he was forced to stop running because he was exhausted and cancer had spread to his upper lungs. When he was finished his marathon he ran 3339 miles over 143 days in which he equal to a full marathon each day, raising 1700000 dollars for cancer research. -

He was also given this award the year before 1981, being considered a national hero, named after many schools, parks, roads, and more. -
Passing of Terry Fox
