    Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill, was born on November 30th, 1874 at Bleinheim Palace in a coatroom while his parents were attending a ball. Churchill's mother was Jennie Jerome Churchill and was born in Brooklyn, New York. Meanwhile, Churchill's father was Lord Randolph Churchill who was born in England and was the son of the seventh Duke of Marlborough. This event is significant because Winston Churchill would grow up to be one of England's most successful orators and politicians.(Nathan 15)

    In 1880, Thomas Edison and J.W. Swan developed the first electrical light. They had filled over 40,000 pages with notes and had tested over 1600 materials in search of the perfect fiilament.     The Statue of Liberty wa dedicated on October 28th, 1886 and was a gift from the people of France to commemorate the alliance forged in the American Revolution. It was designed by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, with the help of Alexander Gustave Eiffel. The statue itself was made in France while the pedestal was made in the United States and took four months to assemble. This was significant because the statue stands for long-lasting alliance.     Churchill is Accepted to Sandhurst Academy
    In June 1893, Winston Churchill was accepted into Sandhurst Military Academy. Churchill had originally failed the entrance exam twice, but was finally accepted in June. He entered the academy September 1st of the same year and studied tactics, topography and drill. In December 1894 Churchill graduated 20th of his class.     Churchill Goes on Leave to Cuba
    In 1896, while on leave from his regiment, Churchill went to Cuba to collect information on the war. While there he was almost shot in the leg. Based on what he had seen, Churchill formed the opinion that the United States would be the best country to obtain Cuba.     In 1901, at the age of 26, Winston Churchill was officially beginning his political career by representing the town of Oldham, in Parliament.Churchill held the position from 1901-1906. Oldham was mainly in favor of the Conservative Policy of Protection, therefore so was Churchill. That is until he converted to the Liberals side due to his views on national issues.     The Wright Brothers began flying on December 14th,1903. They had estimated that the plane would weigh approximately 625 pounds and could therefore calculate that the minimum speed would be about 23 miles per hour. Wilbur was the first person to actually fly, although the flight only lasted 12 seconds and went 120 feet.     Winston Churchill and Clementine Hozier first met in 1904, and then on August 11th, 1908 Churchil proposed at Bleinheim Palace. About one month later, on September 12th, 1908 the couple were married at St. Margaret's Church.This event was significant because Clementine helped make a sturdy home for Winston and also was Chruchill's most important critic.     The Dardanelles Campaign was also known as the Gallipolli Campaign. This was a failed attempt to create a supply line to Russia to help in their war effort. Winston Churchill was a great supporter of this campaign and because it failed the military appeared to be incapable of accomplishing anything.     Mahatma Ghandi returned to India from South Africa in 1915. He wanted to help the people of India gain their independence, but he wanted to do so non-violently. Ghandi succeeded in remaining non-violent throughout three main movements called the Non-Cooperation Movement (1920-1922), the Civil Disobedience Movement (1930-1931), and the Quit India Movement (1942).     Winston Churchill became Chancellor of the Exchequer or the chief financial minister in 1924 and held the position until 1929. Churchill tried four different reforms, however only one was successful. The Gold Sweeping Restoration, the Sweeping tax Reform, and the Coal Strike Meditation were all failures however the Income Tax Reduction was a success.     On May 10th, 1940 Winston Churchill replaced Neville Chamberlain as Prime Minister of England. On May 13th, he gave his first speech as Prime Minister. In this speech, he outlined his plan for defeating the German Nazis and vowed never to allow England to give up their fight.     In 1940, Franklin D. Roosevelt decided to run for a third term as President of the United States. He ran against republican Wendall Wilkie and had some difficulties in gaining voters. Many people believed that Roosevelt was attempting to become a dictator. Roosevelt won the election with 449 electoral votes to Wilkie's 82 electoral votes. This is significant because it sparked the ratification of the 22nd Ammendment that said no president could serve more than two terms.

    On June 6th, 1944, the Allied Forces under Generals Eisenhower and Montgomery landed 130,000 troops on the shores of Normandy , France. The Allied Forces were attempting to take back territory from the German Nazis and outnumbered their airforce fourteen thousand planes to five hundred. The Germans lost between four thousand and nine thousand men, while the Allied Forces lost around ten thousand men,

    On October 15th, 1953 Winston Churchill was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. He was chosen over ernest Hemmingway and Juan Ramon Jiminez. He was chosen for "...his mastery of historica and biographical descriptions as well as for brilliant oratory in defending exalted human values." These characterisitcs were especially associated with his six volume work:The Second World War.

    Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill Dies.
    At the age of 90, Winston Churchill died in London just after 8 o'clock in the morning on January 24th, 1965. He had died following a stroke about a week earlier. His funeral took place at St. Paul's Cathedral and was attended by the Queen. Churchill was buried in the churchyard of Bladon Village Parish near his birthplace of Bleinheim Palace. This event was significant because a world changing leader was dead. Winston Churchill was gone but not forgotten. (Churchill Dead at 90)
