    Phillip Hess was born on September 9th, 1997. He was a late-in-life surprise for his parents, being in their early 40s. Grew up near the Miramar area of Jacksonville. Attended Hendricks Ave for elementary school.
  • 9/11 Terrorist Attacks

    9/11 Terrorist Attacks
    The events of 9/11 took place on September 11th, 2001. Four total planes were hijacked. Two were flown into the World Trade Center. One was flown into the Pentagon, and the other one was likely headed for Washington D.C. However, hijackers were interrupted by passengers, and it was crashed in an empty field in Pennsylvania.

    Super Bowl  XXXIX
    On the 6th of February in 2005, the Philadelphia Eagles played against the New England Patriots at the Alltel Stadium. The Philadelphia Eagles lost to the Patriots by 3 points. This was the first Super Bowl that took place in Jacksonville, FL.

    Barrack Obama Elected as 2008 United States President
    In 2008, in a race for president between Barack Obama and John McCain, Obama won. Obama did wonders in healthcare reform, ended U.S. combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, and also supported federally legalized same-sex marriages.

    Gay Marraige Legalized
    On June 26th, 2015, after decades of fighting for equal marriage rights, gay marriage was finally legalized. Earlier, when Obama was elected, he decided DOMA (the Defense of Marriage Act) was unconstitutional and allowed for the Supreme Court to advance marriage equality.

    Phillip Hess attended Douglas Anderson School of the Arts from 2012-2016. He studied classical piano and met some of his greatest friends there.

    Donald Trump Elected as 45th United States President
    After much of the nation had thought Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton was the next in line for president, despite the poll numbers, Trump won the votes of mainly white working-class voters. Despite no previous political experience, he was put into office on January 20th, 2017.
  • Hurricane Irma

    Hurricane Irma
    Hurricane Irma made landfall at 9:10 a.m. on September 10th, 2017, as a Category 4. It dealt severe damage to South Florida. Approximately 6 million people were told to evacuate. Tree and fence damage was significant. Many South Florida citizens remained without power for a week.

    Bobby Kid NC weekend tour
    In January of 2018, Phil went on one of his first weekend runs, playing shows in Atlanta, Clemson, and Chattanooga after his band, Bobby Kid, released their single "Blue".

    Brexit
    The United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union in 2016. To allow time for policies and terms to be put in place, they decided that they would officially exit on January 1st, 2020. Though they could still travel between the two, the UK would need to obtain a visa if they wished to stay longer than 90 days. It also allowed the UK to negotiate trade deals with foreign countries instead of having to rely on the EU.

    Russian Invasion of Ukraine
    In late 2021, Russian troops began to build up arms on the Ukrainian border. Though Putin claimed this was just a standard exercise, after announcing a "special military operation" on February 24th, 2022, warfare started. Half a million lives have been estimated to have been lost, and until Putin pulls his troops, the war will continue.

    George Floyd Sparks another BLM
    On May 25th, officers arrested, and through brutal and excessive force, killed George Floyd. In the wake of this event and many others, including Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown, the Black Lives Matter movement started.

    Major advancements in AI
    Major advancements in AI came around 2022 with additions like ChatGPT 3.5 and 4, where natural language and machine learning reached a new level. AI has positive results, such as improved productivity and possibilities for better healthcare systems, though some people also fear AI's threat to the job market.
  • Roe V Wade Overturned

    Roe V Wade Overturned
    On June 24th 2022, Roe v. Wade, a constitutional right to abortion that had been in place since 1973, was removed, sadly affecting every American woman.
  • Fullstack academy

    Fullstack academy
    In August of 2022, Phillip Hess attended Fullstack Academy, a program offered through UNF. The program taught basic programming and lessons in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
