Hiring-out: Dr. Emerson War
Dr. Emerson is receives orders to move to Jefferson Barracks Military Post, St. Louis, Missouri. He leaves Harriet and Dred Scott at Fort Snelling where they are temporarily leased to a hirer under the 'Hiring-out System', They can be hired to others so Dr. Emerson can make money. -
Moving to Louisiana
Dr. John Emerson marries Eliza Irene Sanford and sends for his slaves to join them in Louisiana. Dred Moves there and now runs under Eliza and Dr. Emersons call. -
1st Child
On the way to Louisiana, Dred's first daughter Eliza was born on a steamboat on the Mississippi River between the Iowa Territory and Illinois. Eliza was therefore technically born as a free person under both federal and state laws as she was born in free territory. -

Dred's second child is born named Lizzie. -
Wife Inheritance
During Dred's his slave life, Dr. John Emerson dies and his widow, Eliza Irene Emerson inherits him. -
1st Case of Freedom: Emerson Won
Emerson won the case on a technicallity. Dred was not able to support enough evidence to prove to be a free man. He had to prove he was a slave under Emerson. -
1st Case to Freedom Re-trial
Dred Scott is granted his freedom; he proves enough evidnce to win. Eliza Irene Emerson files an appeal with the Missouri Supreme Court to re-trial the re-trial. -
Emerson Remarried: Scott ownership tranfered
Eliza Irene Emerson remarries. The name of new husband was Calvin C. Chaffee. After marriage Eliza Irene Emerson Chaffee transfers ownership of the Scotts to her brother, John F. A. Sanford. -
Case Back to Slavery
Since Dred transfered hands during his freedom trila he is sentenced back to slavery. His previous ruling is reversed. -
Dred VS Sandford for Freedom
The case of Dred Scott comes to trial in the Supreme Court. Verdict was in favor of John Sanford. Dred was sentence to slavery. -
After Ruling Case Supreme Court
After the Dred Scott case many concerns were brought up, to ensure it did not occure again the Supreme court made rules. US Supreme Court rules that slaves were property and had no rights, that freed African-Americans were not citizens and had no right to sue in a federal court. -
Death
Age estimated about 63. Died in St. Louis.
