    Franklin D. Roosevelt is elected President.

    FDR is elected President four times consecutively as no legislature had previously been created to stop this. FDR died during his 4th term.
  • Attack on Pear Harbor

    A surprise attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor, the United States declared war on the entire axis powers in reaction to the attacks. One of the most significant events in WWII and is considered America's entry to the war
  • Executive order 9066

    Covering nearly a third of the entire US, this order removed Japanese people from "exclusion" zones in an order to curb the chances of enemy spies gaining information however in hindsight is highly frowned upon as a mistake.
  • D Day Invasion

    D-Day was the largest amphibious invasion in history. A mixed forces attack launched on the beaches of France lead to a very successful European campaign.
  • The GI Bill is Introduced

    Signed into action by President Franklin Delanor Roosevelt, this bill was designed to offer benefits to returning vets such as free education.

    Harry S. Truman's Presidency

    The 33rd President of the United States, Truman is often blamed for economic collapse. His Presidency began after FDR's death.
  • Atomic Bombs hit Japan

    The first atomic bomb to be dropped on Japan was Fat Man. It was dropped on Hiroshima. Three days later, Little Boy was dropped on Nagasaki. The Japanese surrendered after promptly after the second atomic bomb was dropped.
  • The First United Nations Meeting Occurs

    51 Nations met to form a global peacekeeping pact. The UN would end up replacing the League of Nations after its disbandment in April.
  • The Marshall Plan is Enacted

    Millions of dollars were sent to Europe to restart the economy. The US sent a total of 13 billion dollars over a span of 4 years.
  • NATO is formed

    North Atlantic Treaty Organization or NATO was created as a defense pact between the U.S., England, France, Canada, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, and Italy.
  • Soviet Union Successfully tests an Atomic Bomb

    Shocking the world and beating all American estimates, the Soviet scientists successfully launched a nuclear warhead as a test. This began the nuclear arms race with the United States and terrified the entire Western Hemisphere.

    The Korean War began when North Korea invaded South Korea. United Nations troops failed to end the fighting and negotiations began on a peace treaty/ Peace talks ended up taking two years.
