Communication with the internet became faster and more efficient in the 70's. UseNet (made in 1979) allowed users to communicate via newsletters

Home Computers

1980

In the 1980's, home computers were becoming more popular and social media was getting more modernized. IRC's were used in 1988, and stayed until the 1900's

First Real Social Media

1997

The first "modernized" social media site was called Six Degrees, and it was made in 1997. It allowed users to make a profile picture, and make friends with other users.
