Billund Woodworking and Carpenter's Shop Built
The newly built woodwork shop, "Billund Woodworking and Carpenter's Shop", which eventually evolves into the building where LEGO will be founded. Ole Kirk Christiansen bought the store and started to pursue his envisions. Shortly after, the store burned down and LEGO was forced to rebuild three times. -
Wooden Pull Toys are Produced
Because of the depression, Ole Kirk's business almost went bankrupt. With a lack of carpenter's, the company produces many wooden toys. This helped bring the company out of bankruptcy and increased the size of business. -
Plastic Toys
Ole Kirk purchased the first plastic melding machine that began to produce plastic lego pieces. At first, people believed that the plastic toys were never good enough to replace the honest wooden toys of the time. However, Ole Kirk set high standards and these toys seemed to be the only exception for the dislike of plastic toys. -
Automatic Binding Bricks
Lego began producing new and innovative the interlocking bricks, and they were named "Automatic Binding Bricks". These bricks were largely influenced on the patent Kiddicraft Self-Locking Bricks,
The bricks were originally originally manufactured to resemble the traditional stack of wooden blocks that locked together by the rounded studs on top and a hollow rectangular bottom. -
First Lego Film is Shot
The first ever film about Lego is shot. Photographer is Christian Lund filmed this movie with no sound and in a black and white setting. This was also the time that Lego met its big peak because Lego's plastic toys made up all plastic toys purchased. -
Modern Bricks developed
Lego decided to change their older models into a modern brick design, but it took another five years to find the right material to make the products. By doing this, production of wooden bricks discontinued. Lego also started selling their products in other countries such as Norway, Germany, and Switzerland. -
Lego Figures are Launched
Lego figures are launched, starting with the original Lego family.
Bricks and pieces are further developed and the official Lego newsletter is introduced to different countries. Instruction packets with assembly directions began coming out with the packages and boxes. -
50th Anniversary of Lego
Lego reached its 50th anniversary on August 13, 1982. The company continues to expand and is successful throughout the whole world -
Top Toy
In 1990, Lego becomes one of the top 10 companies. The brand continues to improve and expand its creativity with the types of product. Older products are discontinued to try and bring a new innovative trend such as pink legos. -
Lego Website Introduced
Lego introduced its first official website, Lego.com. This further enhanced their profits because now consumers were able to shop at home and online. The website included all products up to date and became very popular within two months of releasing. -
Lego Studios Introduced
Lego Studios became a popular brand of Lego toys that mainly focused on movie making. The films included stop motion animation that made real movies with Lego Bricks. It was first introduced in 2000 and later discontinued in 2003. -
New Mini-Figures Are Introduced
Lego launches a new type of mini-figures and other sets that are more similar to different movies or people. For example, one of the most popular sets that came out at this time included the Indiana Jones set. The set had cars, snakes, and mini-figures that resembled the main characters in the movie. Over the entire year, these sets had large profits and were really popular. -
Architecture Series
LEGO chooses Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, as the latest eye-catching representative of its LEGO Architecture series, which celebrates the past, present, and future of world architecture. Burj Khalifa towers 828 meters above downtown Dubai. This was the first representative building outside of the United States. -
First Lego Movie
The LEGO Movie opens in February and became a commercial hit, the movie made $69.1 million in its opening weekend, making it the second largest February debut of all time. This influenced the making of the t.v series and a sequel. -
Largest Tower
In June, participants in Milan, Italy succeeded in creating a 35-meter (114.8 ft) tower made of more than half a million colorful LEGO bricks—a new Guinness World Record.
