In September 1931, Japan claimed that Chinese soldiers had sabotaged the railway, and attacked the Chinese army. The Chinese army did not fight back because it knew that the Japanese were just wanting an excuse to invade Manchuria. By February 1932, the Japanese had conquered Manchuria, and set up a Japanese-controlled state called Manchukuo, run by the former Emperor of China. Thousands of Chinese soldiers and civilians had been killed by the modern but ruthless Japanese army. -

Battle of Monte Cassino
The fight resembled a WW1 battle, with artillery bombardments preceding bloody infantry assaults on fixed positions. Success was bought at the cost of more than 50,000 casualties on the Allied side. Today, the battle is mainly remembered for the destruction of the abbey of Monte Cassino. -

The United States drops an atomic bomb the first to be used in warfare on Hiroshima, killing 75,000 people instantly, and injuring more than 100,000. Shortly after the US drops Nagaski. All because Japan did not listen to our warning.
