Because the whole world was in a depression, it was easy for dictators to come to power. They promised new financial stability for their country. -
Hitler becomes president
Hitler, already chancellor, was elected president of Germany after former president, Paul von Hindenburg, died. This made him a dictator in some ways, because he is both of the head positions. -
Neutrality Act passed by US Congress
This act prevented the US from aiding anyone in the war. Led to Hitler being able to attack more without fear of US involvement. -
Hitler sends troops to Rhineland
Adolf Hitler sent troops into the Rhinelands to take over. This was a violation of the Versailles Treaty. England and France just let it happen in hopes of appeasing Hilter. -
Munich Pact
Was signed by Adolf Hitler and the Prime Minister on England. This gave the Sudetenland of Czechoslovakia, where many Germans lived already, to Germany. -
Nazis start rounding up Jews
This is also known as the start of the Holocaust. They put the jews in labor camps, which eventually become the death camps. -
Nazi-Soviet Pact
Stalin and Hitler agreed to not attack each other, which was beneficial to both countries. This allowed Hitler to invade countries on the Western front without fear of attack from the East. It contributed to the first of the invasions by Germany and the eventual start of the war. -

The Nazis invade Poland; France and Britain declared war on Germany.
