13th Amendment
The 13th Amendment ended slavery and ended involuntary solitude. This protected African Americans from being forced into manual labor. One consequence that this brought about was Black Codes. -
14th Amendment
The 14th Amendment guaranteed the rights and security of any freed African Americans. This also ensured the rights and security of any US-born citizen. This caused Black Codes to intensify. -
15th Amendment
This made it illegal for anyone to stop someone from voting based on race, color, or previous condition of solitude. This gave African American men the right to vote. This also upset women's rights groups because they felt it was unfair that African American men could vote but they couldn't. -
Voting Enforcement Act
This stated that it was illegal to interfere with citizen's rights to vote. This meant that people couldn't physically stop people from voting. This led to officials and supervisors making them take tests in order to vote. -
Ku Klux Klan Act
This outlawed the activities of the KKK. This meant that fewer African Americans were beaten and threatened. This caused the KKK to do more in private and shy away from the public. -
Supervision Enforcement Act
This stated that federal elections must be held under the supervision of federal marshals. This discouraged any threats made to a group regarding elections because a supervisor was present. This led to the KKK becoming supervisors at the elections to monitor African Americans and try to stop them from voting. -
Civil Rights Act of 1875
This act stated that it was a crime if certain people weren't allowed to be in certain public places. In other words, it was a crime if full access and equality were denied to a public space. This also made it illegal to discriminate based on race during a jury selection. This caused an argument that spaces could still be segregated.
