13th amendment
The 13th amendment abolished slavery.
This amendment succeeded in making slaves free legally, but it failed to protect them as American citizens because of the actions of the southern states. This amendment was also ratified on December 6th, 1865. -
14th amendment
This amendment gave citizenship to any person born in the US including ex-slave African AMericans
