Laura Ingalls early life
Laura Ingalls Wilder was born on February 7, 1867, to Charles and Caroline Ingalls in their log cabin just outside of Pepin, Wisconsin. Two years after her birth, in 1869, her family moved to Kansas. She was one of four children. She had an older sister named Mary; two younger sisters, Carrie and Grace; and a younger brother named Charles, who died at nine months old. Video -

Laura moves with Ma, Pa, and Mary to Indian Territory, Kansas
All that is known about the date is that it was done in the fall. While in Kansas, there was another baby girl added to the family named Carrie on August 3, 1870. After living here for a couple years the family was forced to move out May of 1871 by troops from Kansas. This is where the inspiration for "Little House on the Prairie" came from. The family then returned to Pepin, Wisconsin. -
Leaves Wisconsin and heads to Walnut Grove, MN
The Ingalls family moved to Walnut Grove, Minnesota. Then they decided to move to Burr Oak, Iowa 1876. While in Burr Oak IA, Laura's littlest sister was born named Grace. In 1878, the Ingalls family left Iowa and returned to Walnut Grove, Minnesota. "On the Banks of Plum Creek" came from living in MN. -
On to Dakota Territory
In the early part of 1879 to fall 1879 Mary loses her eyesight, family moves to Dakota Territory where the early part of "On the Shores of Silver Lake" took place. -
DeSmet
winter 1880/1881 The Ingalls family takes on the Winter at DeSmet, Dakota Territory. This is where Laura's "The Long Winter" comes from -
Becomes a Teacher
In the Fall of 1882, and early 188 Laura becomes a school teacher. Her book called "Little Town on the Prairie" comes from this experience. Video -
Laura gets married
25 Aug 1885 Laura Ingalls and Almanzo Wilder marry. They have a daughter named Rose in 1889, still in Dakota Territory. Laura write "The First Four Years" Laura's Family and Friends Pioneer Girl
