Larry Laudan was born in Austin, Texas on October 16th, 1941. He lived to be 80 years of age and passed just recently on August 23rd, 2022. -
Progress and Its Problem
Luadan published a very influential book, Progress and Its Problems, on 1977. He argues against both empiricism, Karl Popper, and Revolutionism, Thomas Kuhn, and instead proposes that science is an evolving process that accumulates evidence while also resolving conceptual anomalies. He's essentially challenging the idea that science is a problem solving activity and questions the historiography and methodology of science. -
A Confutation of Convergent Realism
Larry Laudan was well known for his pessimistic induction argument in 1981 against the the claim that repetitive success of science describes reality. The suggests that the history of science does not and will not confirm scientific realism.
