    Brown V. The Board of Education
    May 17,1954 the supreme court ruled that it is against the 14th amendment to seclude children based on race. The ruling was that they would make "separate but equal" schools for all children.

    This was important because it put forth the idea that all children have the right to equal education. This is important for the fight in special education
  • Burlington School Committee v. Massachusetts Board of Education

    Burlington School Committee v. Massachusetts Board of Education
    This law states that parents be reimbursed for having to pay for any private special education. It states that parents would be reimbursed for any expenses they had to pay if the IEP the district offered was unqualified for child's needs.

    This was important because families with children with special needs were forced to pay for a fair education. This would relieve some of the financial burden.
  • Cedar Rapids Community School v. Garret F.

    Cedar Rapids Community School v. Garret F.
    This case involved a boy who was a quadriplegic that needed additional medical attention at school such as observing him for respiratory distress.     The mother finally got the ruling in their favor because of a previously ruling that the only exemption to them having to provide it is if its a physician. Since he only required a nurse.
  • PL 94-142

    PL 94-142
    This is an amendment to the original PL 94-142. The original was the grounds to ensuring access to education by to all disabled children. This amendment adds specific portions of the no child left behind act. It also revises the IEP by no longer requiring short term goals.

    The merging of no child left behind was important. Also the way they identified a child having a learning disability changed.
