They built the town so workers could rent homes from George Pullman. The rents were high and the wages were slashed because of the depression. He refused to lower rent and workers went on strike, so there was no transportation. -

It was a strike by United Mine Workers of America in Pennsylvania. They threatened to shut down the winter fuel supply to major cities. It was the first strike where the federal government was neutral. -

A book about how bad the meat packing industry was. Meat would fall on the ground and mice and other things would be in it and no one would care. There was also no where for the workers to wash their hands so they washed them in the water they put on the sausage. -

It is a book that tells about how hard it was for child laborers. There were vey bad conditions in the mines and some of the children died from the machinery. The children worked 10 hours a day in the mines and some got bad cuts and broken fingers from the coal. -

Formed by a law that said you need an inspection of meat. It also inspected the sale and transportation of food products. It inspected poisonous medicines too. -
Triangle Shirt Factory Fire
It was the deadliest industrial disaster for New York. 146 people were killed in the fire. The door were locked, so many people were trapped and jumped to there death. -

It was part of the AFL until 1935. It broke away because it supported industrial lines. It reintegrated into the AFL in 1955 -
National Labor Relations Act
It was pro labor. It had the National Labor Relations Board created. It also had power to punish unfair labor practices. -
GM Sit-down Strike
General Motors shut down plant operationsin Flint, Michigan. They brought the tactic of sit down strikes to the public. They stayed at the workplace, so no business was conducted. -
Fair Labor Standards Act
Minimal ages for employment were made. Hours were regulated for children too. This was the first time this had happened. -
Steel Strike
It was a strike by United Steelworkers of America against US Steel. It was going to happen, but Harry Truman nationalized the hours before the workers left. Steel companies sued for their facilities. -
Major League Baseball Strike
It was the first Major League Baseball strike by the players. 86 games were missed in a 13 day period. The games were never played because the league did not pay players who were on strike. -
New York City Transit Strike
It was a strike by the Transport Workers Union Local 100. It stopped all service for subway and buses. The service was restored over night.
