Haymarket Square Riot
The strike took place because labourers felt that their rights were being infringed upon. During the peaceful riot a bomb was thrown into the crowd killing 67 people, seven of them being policemen. The labourers were rioting because they were trying to get their workday hours reduced to eight. -
Pullman Car Strike
The Pullman Car Strike occurred because the railroad workers' pay was decreased but the price of their rent was not, causing the railroads to shut down in the west. In response to the strike, congress created a national holiday, labor day. -
Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire
A deadly industrial fire occurred in a factory in Manhattan, New York, where there were no fire escapes or ventilation in the building. 146 workers were killed in this fire. This caused protests from the other workers, which led to an investigation and a change in laws, which would then require most building to have fire escapes and ventilation. -
Ludlow Massacre
The Ludlow Massacre was a strike done by coal miners. They were protesting working conditions and pay. During which 25 people, including 11 children, were killed. The protesters did not benefit greatly from their strike, but the UMWA received 4,000 new workers -

Steel Strike of 1959
519,000 steel workers went on strike for 116 days. They were protesting a part of their contract because they wanted more pay and better benefits. The companies ended up increasing their pay by seven cents and gave the workers health benefits.
