  • The Great Southwest Railroad Strike

    The strike occurred March-September. The workers refused to work due to the unsafe conditions and unfair hours and pay. The railroad workers on strike were the Union Pacific and Missouri Pacific. This strike failed due to the lack of commitment by other workers.
  • The Pullman Strike

    Chicago Illinois had a trike due to workers working ton many hours and not enough pay. The Pullman Palace Car Company factory workers were the ones affected and they walked out in protest. This occurred from May-July. After so many had joined the protest the train traffic had to be shut down in West Chicago. This strike ended once federal troops were sent by President Cleveland.
  • Great Anthracite Coal Strike

    This strike occurred from May-October. Mine workers were not happy with their wages and conditions. So they went on a strike in eastern Pennsylvania this created an energy crisis. President Roosevelt tried to intervene since this became a major concern, but he was unsuccessful. So there was a deal with the union to get a raise of 10%.
  • Steel Strike

    This strike lasted from September 1919-January 1920. In Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania the Steel Corporation was unhappy with poor working conditions. long hours, low wages and corporate harassment. They went on strike, so many that it caused nearly half of the steel industry to shut down. However this strike was unsuccessful, the company owners turned it into a way of public sentiment against the unions. The steel industry was absent for the next 15 years.
  • Railroad Shop Workers Strike

    This strike lasted from July-October. It affected the nation. The workers were to be cut by seven cents. So 400,000 rail shop laborers went on strike. The great American railroads responded right away and replaced three quarters to empty positions. The federal judge put a band on strike related activities and the union put an end to the strike. They had to settle for a 5 cent pay cut and went back to work.
