Early Exploration was extremely important to the colonisation of Australia. Without these early explorers Britain wouldn't have know about the great southern land and we would not be here today. -
Over Population
Britain had been getting over populated and too many people where there. Everyone was squished and getting disease more easily. People needed a better place to stay so they set out to find and colonise Australia. -

The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial revolution was when machines took over and replaced people. Jobs where get done a lot faster as they had machines to do it. Since the machines had taken over people's job they weren't needed anymore so they had no job and no money. Because people had no money they had to resort to crime to survive. This meant that the prisons in Britain became very full and there was no more room in them so they started a search for Australia. -
Captain Cook discovers the East Coast of Australia
In 1770 Captain Cook sailed over to the East Coast of Australia. He mission was to find land that was uncolonised and than come back to Britain to tell them of his findings. He did exactly this. Once Britain heard about this piece of land they sailed over to claim it theirs. -
High unemployment
During the industrial revolution a lot of people were unemployed which meant they had to steal to survive. Britain was so overcrowded with criminals they had to find another place. Once the journey to Australia was announced all th criminals wanted to come over to start their life again in Australia and get a job. -
Britains Jails were full
As more and more people were stealing and committing crime and with Britain not being able to send convicts over to America there jails were full and they needed a place to dump their convicts so that is why they went to Australia. -
Captain Arthur Philip arrived at Sydney Cove
In 1788 Captain Arthur Philip arrived at Sydney Cove in his ship with the first fleet. He was the commander of the fleet as well as the colony of Australia. He came with the first fleet. -
Van Diemen's Land separates from NSW
In 1825 Van Diemen's Land decided that they wanted their own colony so they then separated from New South Wales to become the second colony in Australia. -
The Border of NSW had been moved West
In 1825 NSW decided that they wanted more room for their colony so they moved their border over more to the west. This made NSW bigger but WA smaller. -
The Gold Rush
The Gold Rush was when Gold was first found in Australia. This meant that people from all over the world came to Australia in hopes of finding gold. This is an important part of Australian history because of the massive population increase in Australia. -

American Civil War
The American Civil War was when America had a fight with Britain about slavery. After this America refused to take any more of Britains convicts so Britain became over populated with convicts. -
The Borders had finalised
By 1863 the Australian borders had been finalised and there was no changing it. All the colony's had agreed on this.
