Kim Il-sung invades South Korea
Coming to power after the end of Japanese rule in 1945, he authorized the invasion of South Korea in 1950, triggering an intervention in defense of South Korea by the United Nations led by the United States. Following the military stalemate in the Korean War, a ceasefire was signed on 27 July 1953. -
UN forces push North Korea to Yalu River- the border with China
Mao, for his part, decided in early October to send his army south across the Yalu River and fight MacArthur's forces. The American army in Korea and Japan, the Eighth Army, was poorly prepared for the war. MacArthur promised that the troops would be home by Christmas 1950. -
Chinese forces cross Yalu and enter Korean War
Those who escaped envelopment and capture were forced back north. UN forces invaded North Korea in October 1950 and moved rapidly towards the Yalu River the border with China but on 19 October 1950, Chinese forces of the People's Volunteer Army crossed the Yalu and entered the war. -

The Korean Armistice Agreement is the armistice which brought about a complete cessation of hostilities of the Korean War.
