Hassan is Violated
"Hassan didn't struggle. Didn't even whimper. He moved his head slightly and I caught a glimper of his face. It was a look I had seen before. The look of a lamb." (74). This qoute highlights the traumatic expiriences Hassan went through, being violated by Assef. This expirience is the breaking point of Hassan and Amir's relationship. -
Initial Soviet Troops to Assist Kabul
On this dat in 1979 the Soviet troops, allied with Kabul after a plea for help, the Soviet troops assited Kabul in fighting for over 9 years. The fight was more or less ended in 1986, leaving Kabul with over 15,000 dead bodues and billions of rubles. -
Baba and Amir Escape
In March of 1981 Babaand Amir escape Kabul, and set out for America. Amir reclalls "Standing on the shouldar of the road, I thought of the way we'd left my house where I left my entire life" (112).This qoute gives insight on the pure sadness Amir feels when being forced out of his home country. In a way I can relate to Amir in the sense that I had to move from my childhood home when I was 7. -
Baba and Amir arrive in Freemont
Baba and Amir finally arrive in Freemont, California sometime in the 1980's, we see Baba's feelings about living in America through the qoute " Baba loved the idea of America" (138). The fact that Baba loved the idea of America, and simplely that shows that they are struggling. While Amir is thriving in America we see Baba to slowly lose power, and with that confidence. -
Amir Graduates High School
One of the biggest achievments is that he "graduated high school at the age of 20" (114). This is important to Amir becuase even at age 20, Amir has accomplished a lifetime goal. Even with the fact he got such a late start on school, being an immigrant. -
Amir and Soraya Become Closer
Amir and his wife to be Soraya carry out their first coversation. Amir asks Soraya "Can we walk?" (153), They talk about Amir's stories and his sadness after Baba's passing. This is an important event becuase Soraya is Amir's uture wife in this is a breaking pointin their relationship. Soraya is a key factor in the support and motivation of Amir, throughout their reationship. -
Baba has Cancer
We learn Baba has cancer. In 1985 Baba goes to the doctor and is told he has "Oat Cell Carcinoma" (156). The fact that Baba has cancer is not only devistating to Amir, but all his friends back in Kabul. Baba is one of the bravest and most beloved characters in our reading and it is sad to see his sickness. -
Rahim Khan Goes to find Hassan
In 1986 Rahim Khan seeks out to find Hassan. One of the reasons he does so is "I went to Hazarajat to find Hassan in 1986. The biggest one, Allah forgave me"(220). The fact that Rahim Khan sought out Allah's forgivness just to find Hassan shows his true will power and care for Hassan. Rahim Khan gains a lot of readers respect through doing this. -
Amir writes his First Story
In the year of 1988 Amir publishes his first story. Amir writes a "father son story, set in Kabul" (182). This is an important event in his life becuase he publishes an actual story, all those years of writing and thinking he was a disappointment for doing so are vanished away by his success. By publishing his first story he is staying true to himslef, and the things he loves, rather then letting the world around him alter his passion. -
Sovet Troops Depart from Afghanistan
The Soviet troops were eventually found unuseful after the wat had bee fought, and were finally drawn from Afghan soil in 1989. In there tracks they left a traumatized and devistated country, and the evetual begin to Al Queda -
Sanaubar Returns
Sanaubar, Hassan's mother returns to him for the first time since his birth. We find out that the old woman who shows up at Hassan's house is his mother through her words to Hassan that "You smiled coming out of me, did anyone ever tell you?" (184). This is an extremely important day in Hassan's lie becuase he is finally getting closure in regards of his mother. The fact that Hassan forgives is mother, and decides to house and take care of her shows that he had missed her all those years. -
Mullah Omar Gains Power and Followers
Shortly after the Soviets departed a Pashtun hurt badly fighting the Soviets, summonded a group of men to attack upon warlords who had raped a young girl. Mullah Omar had eventually earned enough repect and reputation in 1994 that nearly 12,000 followers joined him in his fight. -

Amir is Summonded
In June 2001, Amir is summonded to Pakistan by Rahim Khan, "I have to go to Pakistan...Rahim Khan is very sick" (167). Through this qoute we are exposed to the loyalty and respect Amir has or Mr. Khan, by going bac to the dangerous Pakistan to visit him. This qoutes signifigance lies in the fact that going back to Pakistan is the gateway for Amir to learn and expirience things he never had beore. -
Amir Is Asked to find Sohrab/ Amir Decides to Track down Sohrab
Amir is asked by Rahim Khan to "Go to Kabul. I want you to bring Sohrab back here" (193). This is important to Amir becuase he is being asked to travel through one of the most danerous regions in the world, in order to find this child. By Rahim asking Amir to do this, it gives Amir a chance to atone for all the things he put Hassan through as a child. Still feeling the guilt rom years beore, Amir tells Rahim Khan that he was "Going to Kabul." (199). -
Amir learns Hassan has Died
Amir learns rom Rahim Khan that Hassan was killed by the Taliban. Rahim Khan explains to Amir that "they tookhim into the street...and they shot him in the back of the head" (192). This is an important event becuase it leaved Amir torn and heart broken. Learning this is also the basis for Amir's motivation to go and find Sohrab, and avenge Hassan. -
Amir Learns he and Hassan are Brothers
While on his visit to Rahim Khan in Pakistan AMir learns he and Hassan share the same ather, Baba. Rahim Khan explains that "Ali was sterile" (195). After Rahim explains to Amir that the boy he grew up with, and who he later betrayed was actually his half-brother, Amir's reaction to this is assumable considering the circamstances, screaming things like "All of you, you bunch of lying goddamn bastards!" (195) and "my whole lie is one big fucking lie" (195). -
Amir is Reunited with Assef
Amir runs into his childhood bully, Assef while trying to get Sohrab back from the Taliban. Amir is carrying out a deal with the Talib generlal when the Talib says "Whatever happened to old Babalu, anyway?" (245). Immideatley ater Assef says this Amir identiies him. This is a very important scene because Amir has come face to face with the man who ruined him and Hassans relationship. On top of the history between the two, it is ironic how Assef was the Talib to take Sohrab. -
Amir and Sohrab return to the States
One of the most important days in Amir's life is arguabally the day he brought Sohrab back to San Francisco, "She knelt to eye level with Sohrab [Soraya] took his hand and smiled at him" (358). This is a very important day for Amir becuase he is finally atoning for the wrong he has done to Sohrab. In my eyes this is indeed atonement becuase he is avenging Hassan through the rescue of Hassans child. -
The 9/11 Attack
On September 11th 2001 the World Trade Center was attacked by alleged members of Al Queda, causing many casualites and later being known as the worst attack on US Soil, ever. This attack was allegadley masterminded by bin Laden, earning him a victory in defeating the US. -
