Baba's Birth
In the year of 1933, "the year Baba was born and the year ZahirShah began his forty-year reign of Afghanistan," (24). Around the same time, two brother were high and drunk behind the wheel and they killed two Hazara parents leaving their child an orphan. Baba's father adopted the boy, Ali, and Baba grew up knowing him as a brother. -
Baba Building an Orphanage
Whe Amir was at a young age, "Baba decided to build an orphanage," (13). Baba payed for and built an orphanage all by himself. Building the orphanage was a three year long process and Amir was at the age of eight when it was completed. -
Hassan's Birth
One year after Amir's birth, "Hassan was born in the winter of 1964," (6). Hassan was born in a little shack in the backyard. Also, Amir's mother died at chilbirth. -
Kabul was Attacked
On the night of July 17, 1973, "Something roared like thunder. The earth shook a little and we heard the rat-a-tat-tat of gunfire," (35). That night, Kabul was being attacked. Hassan, Amir, and Ali woke up in a panik Ali said that people were only hunting ducks. -
Amir Tricking Hassan
While Amir was reading to Hassan, "suddenly strayed from the written story," (30). Since Amir is the only one that can read out of the two of them, Amir sometimes plays tricks on Hassan. When Amir was finished making up and telling his own story, Hassan was very impressed not even knowing that Amir had made it up. He said it was the best story he's ever heard. -
Hassan's Birthday
For Hassan's birthday he recieved an unusual present, "'Well,' Dr. Kumar said, 'my job is to fix things on people's bodies. Somethimes their faces.," (45). Hassan was born with a harelip, which makes his upper lip look wierd and distorted. For his birthday, he got an appointment to have this harelip fixed. -
Hassan's Last time Flying a Kite
In the winter of 1975, "I saw Hassan run a kite for the last time," (55). That year, the kite runnner competition was being held in their town and other towns were invited. Hassan and Amir were competing in running a kite and Baba wanted Amir to win for once. -
Amir's Birthday
In the summer of 1976, "I turned thirteen...Afghanistan's next to last summer of peace and anonymity," (93). Baba and Amir's relationship was getting better and cooling off from what Amir mentioned when they were planting tulips. They resumed to their usual routine. -
First Solviet troops parachuted into Kabul
To assist Babrak Karmal, Solviet troops parachuted into Kabu. Moscow insisted they came responded to a plea for help from the Karmal Government. -
U.S. Boycotting Olymic Games
In 1980, when Baba and Amir were still in Kabul, "The U.S. announced it would be boycotting the Olympic Games in Moscow," (126). Baba was upset and loathed this idea. He also thought that Jimmy Carter was not the right fit for running the country and the country needed a better and srtonger man in charge. -
Amir Graduates High School
In the summer of 1983, "I graduated high school at the age of twenty, by far the oldest senior..." (131). This was a happy day for Amir and Baba. There were many girls and boys all around them hugging and crying. Also, Baba had looked like he had been aging. His hair was thinning and she had shrunk a little. -
Rahim Khan went to find Hassan in Hazarajat
One of the many reasons Rahim Khan went to find Hassan was, "Allah forgive me, was that I was lonely," (203). Rahim Khan had no one anymore, this family and friends all either left or got killed. He also could not keep up with the house with his arthritis and failing health. -
Soviet Air Force
After 1986, the Soviet Air Force was rendered no use by Stinger antiaircraft missles. -
Soviet troops left Afghanistan
After peace talks changed by United nations, the last troops of the Solviet unit left Afghanistan. They left behind a country that was torn and devastated by war and had become a beacon to Islamic extremists. -
Farzana was pregnant again and Hasssan's mother arrived
The year of 1990 was eventful, "In early 1990, Farzana became pregnant again. it was that same year...a woman...walked up to the gates,...she was too weak to even stand," (209). This woman was Hassan's mother, but the reason he did not recognize her was because she left when he was at such a young age. She has come back, after all these years, very weak and fragile. -
Hassan's son was born
In the winter of 1990, "It was Sanaubar who delivered Hassan's son," (211). The son was delivered in a hut in the backyard and Sanaubar came out holding her grandchild. Sanaubar, the boy's grandmother, became very important and was present in raising him for some years. -
Mullah Omar had 12,000 followers
By the end of 1994, Mullah OMar had 12,000 followers. He promised to restore the centrality of Islam to daily life. He created a popular movement. -
The General broke his hip
After one of the general's migraines, he came out of his room and tripped on the carpet, "His scream had brought Khala Jamila running from the kitchen," (192). This started some other health problems, such as the general's failing kidneys. His health brought Soraya and him closer, they did many things together. -
Amir came home with Sohrab
Amir and Sohrab arrived in America, "about seven months ago, on a warm day in August 2001," (357). It was a big reunion between Amir and Soraya and meeting someone new between Sohrab and Soraya. Amir and Sohrab had gone through a lot of struggles back in Afghanistan. -

Hamid Karzai, former King od Afghanistan was named chairman of an interim government. -
United States Central Command
General Petraeus, an Iraq commander, had taken charge of US Central Command. His responsibilty for military operations in Iraq. -
Speech at West Point
Mr. Obama delivered a peech to announce his plan to deploy more troops (30,000). He promised to bring home troops form afghanistan. -
Plans for combat forces
Initial plans for American combat forces begin femoving from Afghanistan. Administration of Obama keeps emphasizes the idea that the US will have in country forces until the end of 2014. -
Convincing Afghans
Administeation officials are telling Afghans to warn Taliban about agressive operations and convince them that the US is not walking away.
