    Babas grandfather, with his 3rd wife, gave birth to Baba in 1915. this caused both the birth of Amir and Hassan, since they are half brothers.

    Hassan finally gets surgery for his cleft lip.

  • The rape

    Amir and Hassan win the the kite racing game, but later that day Hassan gets raped by Assef in front of Amir. Amir does not do anything about the rape and began to feel guilty ever since.

  • The guil

    Ever since the rape in 1975 Amir has felt guilty for not doing anything about it until he atoned for his sin by adopting Sohrab.

  • Under a tree

    Amir and Hassan are sitting under a treee together when Hassan states he would rather eat dirt then lie to Amir

    There has been little to no peace in Afghanistan ever since " 1979, when the Soviet Union invaded."

    When Soviet Russia invaded Afghanistan many people felt threatened. A couple moths later Amir and Baba move to San Francisco in hopes of a better life

  • Baba’s escape

    The day Baba decided not to take his medication, he decided to die. That very same day he later past away due to his sickness

    Soon enough the last soviet troops leave Afghanistan "after peace talks moderated by the United Nations."

  • Mullah Omar

    "Mullah Omar," a pashtun, gained many followers for his cause.

  • Split power

    In 1994 power was "anarchically" split between fiefdoms and competing warlords

  • Taliban

    As of 1996 the so called "Taliban" acquired complete control of Afghanistan, enforcing new preposterous rules

  • Hassan’s and Farzana’s death

    Hassan and Farzana are horrifically murdered by the Taliban in the year 2000

  • 9/11 attacks

    The United States government has been involved with Afghanistan ever since " it led an invasion after Sept. 11 attacks by Al Qaeda" (NYT)

  • Hamid Karzai

    As of December 200, Hamid Karzai, " a supporter and relative of Mohammad" became the leader of Afghanistan

  • The call

    Amir gets called back to Afghanistan by Rahim Khan because he needs to take care of Sohrab.

  • Atoning

    Amir finally atones for not doing anything about Hassan’s rape by adopting Sohrab.

  • New Years

    In the last scene of the book Amir and Sohrab fly a kite together where Amir states,”for you a thousand times over.”

  • The extra 30,000

    A speech given by Obama in December of 2009 stated, "his plan to Deploy 30,000 additional troops."

  • American forces "leaving" Afghanistan

    American troops were supposed to once withdraw from Afghanistan during the summer of 2011, until the Obama administration announced the " United States will have forces in the country until at least the end of 2014"
