Khan's Proposition
The president of Afghanistan during 1975, Mohammad dad Khan "proposes a new constitution that grants women rights and works to modernize the largely communist state" In 1975, women were now allowed to do much more and weren't restricted by laws made by the Afghan rule makers. Hassan gets raped
Assef and his friends, "knelt behind Hassan, put his hands on Hassan's hips and lifted his bare buttocks. He kept one hand on Hassan's back and undid his own belt buckle with his free hand" After Hassan and Amir had won the Kite runner competition Hasan ran the Kite and then because he defended Amir from Assef, Assef raped him. -
Amir as Winner
"We won! We won!" was all I could say. This wasn't happening. In a moment, I'd blink and rouse from this beautiful dream, get out of bed, march down to the kitchen to eat breakfast with no one to talk to but Hassan. Get dressed" Amir wins the Kite Runner consest and he so happy and surprised that he won. He also doubted that he won and thought it was a dream. Now he could finnaly get his father's admiration and attention for him. That is the reason he wNted to win the contest.b -
War starts
That night, Amir, Hassan, and Ali, "stayed huddled that way until the early hours of the morning. The shootings and explosions had lasted less than an hour, but they had frightened us badly, because none of us had ever heard gunshots in the streets. They were foreign sounds to us then. The generation of Afghan children" The war starts and Afghanistan is so shocked and very scared. When they here these niose Amir and Hassan wated comfort. -
Hassan and Ali Leave
When Amir heared what Hassan did for him his "heart sank and I almost blurted out the truth. Then I understood: This was Hassan's final sacrifice for me. If he'd said no, Baba would have believed him because we all knew Hassan never lied" Hassan is accused of stealing for something he didn't do but Amir did. He cobfessed that he did it and Amir feels horrible about it, but also feels relieved because he can start over and forget about leaving Hassan get raped by Assef. -
Khan Murdered And Taraki Takes Over
Mohammad Daoud "Khan is killed in a communist coup. Nur Mohammad Taraki, one of the founding members of the Afghan Communist Party, takes control of the country as president, and Babrak Karmal is named deputy prime minister." USA Ambassador and Taraki Killed
The ambassador for Afghanistan from the USA, "Adolph Dubs is killed. The United States cuts off assistance to Afghanistan. A power struggle between Taraki and Deputy Prime Minister Hafizullah Amin begins. Taraki is killed on Sept. 14 in a confrontation with Amin supporters" Taraki's new system was a poor decision that lead to many disastrous actions. Amir and Bubba Move
About a month after moving, "in the U.S., Baba found a job off Washington Boulevard as an assistant at a gas station owned by an Afghan acquaintance" Baba ans Amir have to leave because Afghanistan was bot safe anymore for them because of ear and the insecurity. Baba found a job and both of them are now settled in the US regardless, of the trauma they both endured. -
Kamal gets raped
Kamal a friend of Assef, "on their way to Pakistan, Amir and Baba discover that Kamal, one of the boys who stood by as Assef raped Hassan, was raped in wartime Kabul" Assef rapes Kamal. Assef also raped Hassan ans keeps on raping people knowing that it is wrong. Kamal also dies because of his trauma he endured. -
Afghans Moved
About, "2.8 million Afghans have fled from the war to Pakistan, and another 1.5 million have fled to Iran. Afghan guerrillas gain control of rural areas, and Soviet troops hold urban areas" Since Afghanistan was no way in shape or form to run a country because of the war many Afghans moved away to get to a safe and more secure environment. Afghanistan, Laden, and Soviet
Although he says, "to have traveled to Afghanistan immediately after the Soviet invasion, Saudi Islamist Osama bin Laden makes his first documented trip to Afghanistan to aid anti-Soviet fighters" Laden tries to help Afghanistan fight Soviet. Amir And Soraya get Married
Amir had to tell Soraya everything by saying, "Then I did what I hadn't done in fifteen years of marriage: I told my wife everything. Everything" Amir confessed to his wife Nd told everything about what he felt and qhy he felt that way. He told her about his guilt, his betrayal, his stealing, his loss. They married and Amir is trying to be loyal to Soraya by not lying. -
USA Gives Help
The rebels or "the Mujahadeen are receiving arms from the United States, Britain and China via Pakistan" The United States of America forgives Afghanistan for what they have done because Afghanistan needs help desperately. They provide weapons and army equipment for the Afghans to take down Soviet. Many other arms also came for Britain and China. Baba Dies
Baba dies and Amir finnaly realizes ans thinks, "With me as the glaring exception, my father molded the world around him to his liking. The problem, of course, was that Baba saw the world in black and white" Baba dies and with Amir's mourning, he realizes that Baba never saw the color in the world, he never changed his mind and Amir knows why he was so cold hearted towards him. -
Osama Bin Laden Against Soviet
In September, "Osama bin Laden and 15 other Islamists form the group al-Qaida, or “the base”, to continue their jihad, or holy war, against the Soviets and other who they say oppose their goal of a pure nation governed by Islam" Osama and is team believed that the Soviets were starting a war with Afghanistan because of their fighting. Amir Publishes a Book
Amir makes up his own story and reads it to Hassan and writes, "I pretended I was reading from the book, flipping pages regularly, but I had abandoned the text altogether, taken over the story, and made up my own." This is the start of Amir's writing career because then he then realizes that he has a gift for writing. Hassan days that Amir's writing was very good and the beat one he has ever read to him. Amir is flattered ans very happy after Hassan compliments him. -
Peace Treaty
The U.S., Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the Soviet Union "sign peace accords in Geneva guaranteeing Afghan independence and the withdrawal of 100,000 Soviet troops" Afghanistan finally wins independence and is not in any war. Sorhab is Born
Amir advises Sorhab to not chew like that and, "Sorhabblinked. Like he was looking at me, really looking at me, for the very first time. "But why did people hide it from Father and you?" Since Hassan ans Fazara were murdered by the Taliban right after Sorhab was born. Amir had to take care of him. At this time Sorhab was older, and Amir was trying to teach hime good manners so he could be a gentleman. -
Rebels Attacked Kabul
The Mujahadeen and other rebel groups, "with the aid of turncoat government troops, storm the capital, Kabul, and oust Najibullah from power. Ahmad Shah Masood, legendary guerrilla leader, leads the troops into the capital" In Afghanistan, the city of Kabul or the city in Kite Runner, was raided by many rebels because they were very power hungry. www.pbs.org/newshour/ -
Sanuabaf returns
A man says to Amir would you like, ""Very sexy, Agha," he said, his alert eyes darting side to side – reminding me of a girl who, a few years earlier" This girl was Sanaubar. Later, Sanahbar returns and doesn't look great. She wants to redeem herself because of all the bad things she has done in the past. She has slept with other men andwas very ride to her husband. -
Amir gets Sorhab
Rahim persaudes Amir to get Sorhab by saying, " a boy who won't stand up for himself becomes a man who can't stand up to anything.' I wonder, is that what you've become?" Rahum brings up Amir's past which Amir doesn't like at all. Rahim shows him that by getting Sorhab it is redemption for all of the things Amir did in the past that brought him guilt and nightmares. -
Sorhab almost dies
The reason why Sorhab tries to kill himself is because, "Sohrab who only longed for his father's love? Personally, I couldn't see the tragedy in Rostam's fate. After all, didn't all fathers in their secret hearts harbor a desire to kill their sons" Amir betrayed Sorhab and he though that was the end. No one would ever love him ans stay with him. Sorhab wanted love and he felt lonely and betrayed by Amir. -
Amir betrays Sorhab
Sorhab turns to Amir, "He turned to me. A few sweat beads rolled from his bald scalp. "Would I ever lie to you, Amir?" Amir betrays Sorhab and leaves him in Afghanistan. Sorhab was very sad and dissappointed because Amir broke his promise just like he did to Hassan which is ironic. Sorhab is the son of Hassan and Amir is filling in because as the father even though he is the uncle because Hassan was murdered. -
United Against Soviet Army
By early 1980, "the Mujahadeen rebels have united against Soviet invaders and the USSR-backed Afghan Army" Afghanistan and Mujahadeen traitors teamed up to fight Soviet because of what Soviet had done to hurt the Afghan people. At this time, Afghanistan was in a poor state politically because they had no leader to guide their country in a good place.
