    A picture in Amir's living room shown "an old, grainy photo of my grandfather and King Nadir Shah taken in 1931, two years before the kings assassination..."(Hosseini 5). This quote reveals the year of the Kings death. This is important because it effected the government of Afghanistan, effecting people like Amir and Hassan.

    In the year 1933 "[was] the year Zahir Shah began his forty-year reign..."(Hosseini 24). This quote is important to the plot of the book because Zahir Shah's reign effected Amri's life and effected how Baba was raised and how Amir was raised. This shows that Amri's childhood was dictated by this ruler and how he ruled.
  • The German built hydro plant- Book

    After world war 2, "the Germans had built [a hydro plant] back in 1967"(Hosseini 111). This is important because it may strengthen the relation between Germany and Afghanistan causing there to be some German bias in the story. This could help cause and effect Amir's life and path he decides to choose because of the pro-Germany feel.

    After the night of "July 17, 1973 ... Kabul awoke the next morning to find that the monarchy was a thing in the past ... Daoud Khan had ended the king's forty-year reign..."(Hosseini 36). This event is important because it effected Amir and Hassan's life. This event triggered other events which ended up effecting Amir and Hassan's actions.

    Amri's decided his own fate "on a frigid overcast day in the winter of 1975. [He remembers] the precise moment, crouching behind a crumbling mud wall, peeking into the alley near a frozen creek"(Hosseini 1). I picked this because it is a very important event in the book. This event shows when Amir made a decision that would forever change his life.

    While in a DVD store, Amir spoils a book where "Charles Bronson dies in it, so do James Coburn and Robert Vaughn."(Hosseini 356). Amir spoils a book, not realizing it is not a normal and socially acceptable thing in America. This helps him fit into modern life and become a respectable person.
  • General Sahib- Book

    During Amir and Baba's flee market activity, Amir went to go get coffee, and "returned to find Baba talking to an older, distinguished-looking man"(Hosseini 138). Here, Amir meets General Shaib, the father of his future wife. This is important to the plot because if this interaction didn't happen, Amir wouldn't of fallen in love with Soraya.

    The summer of 1988 Amir "finished [his] first novel"(Hosseini 182). Here Amir starts what is going to dictate what he does in his life and how he lives it. Without this event, Amir wouldn't be the person who he was after this in the book. This scene really sets the tone for the rest of the book, a happy life with some major downsides.

    While talking with Rahim Khan, Amir remembers the date when the "Taliban... massacred the Hazaras"(Hosseini 213). This date remember all the wrongs the Taliban have done to the Hazara culture fueling the fire for his hatred towards them. This date helps give motivation to go rescue Sohrab.
  • Sohrabs suicide attempt- Book

    While in Pakistan, Amir comes to tell Sohrab about their ability to go to America and finds Sohrab in the process of committing suicide. Amir screams "until [he] thought [his] throat would rip open and [his] chest would explode."(Hosseini 343). Amir cared deeply about Sohrab though his actions and responded to Sohrab's attempt. The amount of care and love Amir has for Sohrab really helps shape Amir's personality and his resilience to harships.

    After a long trip with some hardships, Amir and Sohrab finally "arrived home... in August 2001."(Hosseini 357) Amir had taken an very long and hard trip to finally take Sohrab to America as he promised. Amir went through all these struggles to finally bring Sohrab back.

    On one "morning [in]... September, the Twin Towers came crumbling down."(Hosseini 362). Amir was in California when this happened but was still greatly effected by the outcome. People were talking about his old country like it was normal which really effected his family in society and how they acted.

    When Amir and Sohrab were flying kites a the competition, Amir saw "a smile"(Hosseini 370) come out of Sohrab. Amir finally was sensing a connection with Sohrab which was so necessary for their relationship. Amir finally got something that he wanted, Sohrab's love.
  • The writing of this book- Book

    Amir wrote this book "March 2002"(Hosseini 363) four days after the "small wondrous thing happened."(Hosseini 363). Amir's autobiography helped explain the life in Afgnaistan and then moving to America as a young adult. The passion for life and the fire in their hearts would not of been as widely understood about Afghans if Amir didn't write his won report of his life.
