The origin of the Khmer Empire. The Khmer Empire was located in what now makes up Cambodia, Thailand and Laos, between 802 and 1431 CE. The Khmer Empire was known as one of the greatest, and most powerful states of southeast Asia. -

Angkor Wat
One of the first things that happened when Suryavarman started his reign. It was intended to be a gateway to heaven for the great king. It was also a monument for the Hindu God, Vishnu. It was intended to be a place for prayer for all the citizens of the Khmer Empire. -

Reign of Suryavarman II
Beginning of the reign of Suryavarman II. He was known as one of the greatest kings of the Khmer Empire. Suryavarman obtained the throne by murdering his predecessor.
The reign of the great God-King Suryavarman II ended with his death in 1150 CE. The building of Angkor Wat was completed the same year, and so the king had access to the gateway to heaven. -

Jayavarman VII
Jayavarman VII was born in 1125 CE. he was destined to become the next ruler of the Khmer empire. The two words that make up his name are Jaya, meaning ‘victorious’, and Varman, meaning ‘warrior’. -

Reign of Jayavarman VII
Beginning of the reign of Jayavarman VII, also known as one of the greatest kings of the Khmer Empire. Jayavarman embarked on creating monuments and public facilities for his people.
The reign of Jayavarman VII ended after his death in 1215 CE. He was aged 92-93. During his life he created many things for his people. Some of these include his 102 hospitals, and temples in the honor of his parents. -
