    Frances Willard was born on September 28th, 1839. She was known for her work in the temperance movement and played a very big role in the women's rights movements. She was known for her slogan "Do Everything" and it helped many woman get through a lot of stuff because is showed confidence and it showed what women could really do.
  • Clarence Darrow

    Clarence Darrow
    Darrow was an American Lawyer. He was one of the most famous lawyers and civil libertarians. One of his most famous cases was defending teenage thrill killers Leopold and Loeb in their trial for murdering 14-year-old Robert Bobby Franks. He was very smart and well known for his wits.

    Served two terms as a member of the United States HOR from Nebraska and was a US secretary of state. He was a politician and a speaker and was in the democratic party. He ran to be president 3 times.

    Henry Ford
    Henry Ford was a well known industrialist. He is most notable for his creation of the Ford brand. He was also well known in his creating of the assembly line. It helped the production of companies. It helped make manufacturing quicker. He created the first automobile that the middle class people could also afford.

    Roosevelt was the confidence and the President the country needed at the time of the Great Depression. His plan known as the new deal was a series of government related programs created to help people in need. He pushed his power as president and was shot down a couple of times but was the president for 3 terms.

    Eleanor was known to travel across the US and act as her husbands eyes and ears. She would visit the programs and institutions that he made and checked to see how they were doing. She fought for a lot of things that she believed in. She was very strong in civil rights and held many press conferences.

    Marcus Garvey was a very smart man. He was well known for his publishing and many people were influenced by him. He founded the Black Star line that influenced african americans to return to their native home in Africa.

    Dorothea Lange was born on May 26th, 1895. She died October 11th, 1965. She was very well known for her photography work in the great depression era. The images she produced showed the real harm and what was really happening in the great depression time.

    He was born February 1st in 1902 and he was a poet, novelist, playwright, and a social activist. He dealt with a lot of work in the Harlem Renaissance in New York. He wrote about when "the negro was in vogue"

    After returning to the US Lindbergh became an advocate of American Isolationism. He showed what we could do in the air in war. He was a great pilot and flew fifty combat missions.

    This was the fear of communist, socialist, and anarchists coming into the country to try to affect us. After a couple of anarchist bombings this is what it was named. People were put into jail for telling their views. Many lives were changed.

    The Harlem Renaissance was a literary, artistic, and intellectual movement. It was mostly influenced by the black culture. This brought up a lot of new advances in society.

    Prohibition was the banning and 'getting rid of alcohol'. Many were tired of the consequences of alcoholism. Women hated their husbands always drinking and all of the damage it caused to the family household. The temperance movement started it all and this created the 18th amendment banning alcohol. It lasted for a short while before the 21st amendment came into play allowing the consumption of alcohol.

    When troops returned home they had to go back to a "normal" life. Their life was anything but normal. Many did not know what to do and were affected so much by the war. Warren G Harding promised a life of normalcy or returning to normal.

    John Scopes was brought to trial for teaching human evolution. You weren't allowed to back then. He lost his trial however even though what he was saying was correct. It opposed the creation of man from the bible so that is why it was not looked at as correct.

    The end October brought the most devastating stock market crash in the history of the US. The prices of stock began to decrease. This started the great depression. It lead to millions losing jobs, money, and their life.

    This is also known as "survival of the fittest." This is the theory that different groups and cultures are going to go through natural selection like Charles Darwin speaks of about nature. The people with the most money would survive while the people who are lower class will just die off and not survive.

    The dust bowl was created from the great depression. People were trying to farm crops on land and were not farming correctly and this lead to dirt rising up from winds and created walls of dust. They stopped using livestock on land as much and started resorting to plants and the land wasn't well cropped.

    The TVA was originated to be built as a dam but was never created. It would've been used to help with the war. The government bought the land specifically for that.

    FDR's main goals and plans. This was his big point and selling ticket. He wanted to change the way things were and give the US a sense of hope. This deal was aimed to restore order and get the US back to how it was. He implemented government created agencies and programs to help the people of the country.

    President FDR's three R's. They were to give the people hope and show what he was all about. He wanted to relief the people from the great depression era. He wanted to recover from it and get people back on their feet. And he wanted to implement agencies and programs to never let it happen again.

    The 21st amendment was the amendment that lead to the repealing of the 18th amendment. This lead to the consumption of alcohol once again because the 18th amendment banned alcohol. Some states however decided to keep anti-alcohol laws.

    This Government program gave benefits to seniors, people with disabilities, and people with retirement. To qualify you have to pay taxes and be a legal US citizen. This program gives money the people who are not able to work anymore.
