  • Passage of the Stamp Act

    Passage of the Stamp Act
    A tax that was passed by the British Parliament in 1765. Taxing newspapers, magazines, legal documents, insurance policies, and many other types of papers to help with the British troops in the colonies finance. It was the first taxed that was imposed on the British colonies in North America.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    British soldiers in a group of nine fired at a crowd of colonists. When it finsihed it endded up killing five and wounding six of the crowd. The next morning after the shooting the commander and his eight soldiers were arrested. This caused an increase in an anti-British sentiment in the colonies.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    A group of 70 men went on three British ships that were in the Boston harbor, throwing their tea cargo overboard into the sea. Destroying the tea cargo protested against the Tea Act.
  • Passage of the Intolerable Acts

    Passage of the Intolerable Acts
    The British Parliament repsonding to the Boston Tea Party they passed series of laws that became known as the Intolerable Acts. This ended up closing the Boston harbor with no shippng until the city payed for destructed tea cargo, limited the political authority for the colonists, made legal persecutions of British officials a lot more difficult, and extend boundaries of Quebec's province for the lands that were claimed by the American colonists. It made them determined to defend themselves.
  • Convocation of the First Continental Congress

    Convocation of the First Continental Congress
    The 12 colonies's delegates met the First Continental Congresss discussing how to react for the Intolerable Acts. In doing so they boycotted the British goods and banned the exported American goods to Britain. To carry out the planned boycott effectively the delegates als made the Continental Association and called the Second Continental Congress. This was if the protest was not held to achieve their desired effect.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    Seversal hundred British troo[s were sent by the British governor to seize colonists' military stores at Concord. British intentions got soon discovered by Patriot colonists that decided to prevent the British carrying out their plan. Militiamen that were local gathered at Lexington to be able to intercept the British troops. Being clashed at the North Bridge the British got defeated and were forced to withdraw to Boston.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    The Americans occupied Breed's Hill in Charleestown to protect the shipyard of Boston. The very next day British attacked and took the hill but, had a loss of many people. Americans ended up firing until they ran out of ammunition then quickly retreated.
  • Battle of Quebec

    Battle of Quebec
    Patriot forces tried to capture the British-occupied city of Quebec. They also tried to win support for the American cause in Canada. Having failed the attack the effefort cost the life of Montgomery. It was the first major defeat of the Revolutionary War for Americans.
  • Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge

    Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge
    The American forces took a defeat over the British. Having that defeat against the British took the authority in NC away and made and important boost to Patriot morale.Two months of the Americans winning NC ended up becoming the first colony being able to vote for favor of the independence from Britain.
  • Siege of Boston

    Siege of Boston
    Colonial miltiamen that became part of the Continental Army laid seige to British-held Boston, Massachusetts. This siege included the Battle of Bunker Hill. General George Washington then arrived in Boston to take charge of the Continental army that was made. The British evacuated twon after relaizing they were indefensible.
  • Adoption of the Declaration of Independence

    Adoption of the Declaration of Independence
    Second Continental Congress adopted the Decllaratioon of Independence and formally claimed the 13 colonies independent. Britain not willing to give up their North American colonies the war still went on.
  • Battle of Fort Washington

    Battle of Fort Washington
    Hessian and a force of his 3,000 mercenaries and 5,000 Redcoats that layed siege on Fort Washington at the northern end of the highest point of Manhattan Island.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    Marked as the turning point of the American Revolution. Encouraged France to support the Americans agaisnt Britain. American troops help prevent the British troops from being able to break through and reach their other troops at Albany. British then got surrounded by a larger Continental Army after they failed to try to break through the American lines at Bemis Heights.
  • Surrender of Yorktown

    Surrender of Yorktown
    On the Yorktown peninsula the British found themselves trapped after the successful land annd sea campaign of the joined French and American armies. Knowing that there was no chance against France and American armies the British commander tried to escape. Failed to escape the commander accepted the surrendering terms.
  • Signature of the Treaty of Paris

    Signature of the Treaty of Paris
    Ended the American Revolution. Accepting the defeat against its fomrer colonies the British Empire recognized independence of the U.S.A. It also set boundaries of the Mississippi River in the west, Great Lakes in the North and 31st in the South. Also guaranteed American fishing boats would have access to the Newfoundland.
