Supreme Court equal eduation
In 1938 the supreme court rulled that every state had to offer equal education opprtunitites. This meant that states offering law school and medical schools for whites has to provide such instutions for African Americans as well. -

Federal Discrimination
Truman also banned racial discriminationin the hiring of employees. -
Sweatt v. Painter
In 1950 the Supreme Court ruled in Sweatt v. Painter that the new school did not provide African Americans with acess to equal academic prestige, facilities, or instructors. The court ordered to admit Sweatt to its law school. -
Brown v. Board or Education
A 7 year old lived closer to a white children school then her African American school which was located across town. The Supreme Court Ruled after the case that Segregation in public schools was illegal. -
Desegragate
The Supreme Court ordered public schools to desegregate with all delibrate speed. Only three school districts in the whole south started to desegragate. -
The Montgomery Bus Boycott
African American Rosa Parks didn't move to a seat for African Americans causing the Montgomery Bus Boycott. -
Segregation in Buses
In November of 1956 Segregation in the Montgomery Bus System became illegal. -
Little Rock
Little Rock, Arkansas decided to integrate two high schools and work down to the elementary level. -
Little Rock NIne
The school board choose nine african american students known as the little rock nine. To go and be the first to integrate the schools. -
Ernest Green
Became the first African American Student to graduate a desegregated school. -
District Closes
Governor Fabius of Little Rock closed all public schools in little rock to prevent desegregtaion. The schools were reopened in 1959 by court order.
