    Walking for the first time influenced my identity because it allowed me to explore my environment in a new way. I became able to use my hands while moving, instead of just crawling on my hands and knees. Being able to walk will continue to shape my identity because it allows me to move from one place to another, participate in activities, and accomplish tasks.

    Initiative vs. Guilt - Preschoolers learn to take initiative and execute plans. Otherwise, preschoolers feel guilty about their attempt to be independent.

    Preschool shaped my identity because it allowed me to learn how to interact with other children. I began to develop independence and learned to initiate tasks. The things I learned in preschool continue to shape my identity today because they allow me to properly conduct myself around others, and I have successfully learned how to take initiative and carry out tasks.

This is important to my life today because focus and effort are required for me to complete my tasks and assignments.

Playing the piano will continue to shape my identity because it allows me to use many different areas of my brain, entertain others with the gift of music, and express my emotions through music.

This experience helped to foster my love of theatre, and it allowed me to gain more confidence.     Winning the National InvestWrite Competition in fifth grade helped to shape my identity because it challenged me to think about my future and how I could save enough money to go to college. This event continues to influence my identity today because it taught me proper research, writing, and investing techniques and it challenged me to think critically and abstractly in order to devise a plan for my future.

    My first day of high school helped to shape my identity because it was a big transition in my life. I became very involved with extracurricular activities freshman year of high school and I was continuously challenged with the classes I was taking. High school continues to shape my identity today because it is influencing my work habits, interests, and values. As I continue high school, I am becoming a more productive, responsible, and organized individual.

    Hairspray helped to shape my identity because it was my first high school theatre production. The nerve-racking audition process, intense rehearsal schedule, and rewarding performances all helped me to develop as a person. I gained immense self-confidence during this show and learned all about the devotion and commitment it takes to excecute a production. This experience continues to shape my identity because the things I learned help me to improve and perform better in other shows.

    Solo and ensemble festival helped to shape my identity because it taught me about competition, dedication, and cooperation. With my individual events (piano and vocal solos), I learned about dedication and courage. In my vocal octet, I learned about the downfalls and benefits of working in a group. This experience continues to shape my identity today because it helped me grow as a vocalist and pianist and taught me countless things about challenging myself and cooperating with others.

    Getting my driving permit helped to shape my identity because it gave me the freedom to begin driving myself around. Learning to drive gives me a sense of freedom and independence, and it is a big step in adolescence. Getting my permit will continue to shape my identity because it will allow me to work to get my license, which will require me to be very responsible and attentive on the roads.
