In Erikson's first stage, trust versus mistrust, the crisis is between trusting that others mean well because you have been properly cared for and shown love (trust) or thinking the world is a bad place because of your experience of being neglected (mistrust). -

We became friends after learning and listening to each other's backgrounds and discovering how much we had in common. In Erikson's fourth stage, industry versus inferiority, the crisis is between being enthusiastic and open to learning new things or skills (industry) or being defeated and rejecting the opportunity to learn (inferiority). -
Kayleigh Chooses Her Major: Identity versus Identity Confusion
I was in my senior year of high school and a dual enrollment student with the Alaska Middle College when I met with a college advisor to figure out what my interests are and therefore choose a major so I can take the required classes for it in the upcoming semester. Erikson's fifth stage, identity versus identity confusion, the crisis is between finding a purpose in life (identity) and not having awareness of your role in society (identity confusion).
