Early thoughts on playwrights
At a young age, Karen thought that playwrights were more on the selfish side (self-revolved). She thought this even with her grandfather just a bit saying "But we were a little scared of him as kids. I think he was a little selfish. . . . ". Although this was Zacarias's thought on her future career she loved her Grandfather Miguel Zacarias who was a famous director himself producing multiple movies. -
Childhood memory of young Karen
At 6 Zacarias had saved up money from her allowance in order to afford a typewriter. Zacarias although kept the idea of becoming an artist due to her belief that they were "selfish" -
Moving to Massachusetts
Karen moved to Boston at 10 with her family. -
Atlanta
Due to Dad's career, Karen Zacarias moved to Atlanta for a short period of time before finally locating in Boston. -

First job
While still studying creative writing Zacarias had her first job at a think tank for Latin American Policy. A think tank is a research institute that can influence global or national policy. -
Arena Stage
In her mid-twenties, Zacarias earned the opportunity to be one of the playwrights to be in-residency playwrights on the arena stage, and the reason this is important is because of the benefits given to Zacarias that are hard to obtain in playwrighting. These benefits made Zacarias feel "validated". -
Boston University
Zacarias graduated from Boston University earning her master's in creative writing -
Young Playwrights theatre
After graduating with her master's in creative writing, Karen went on to found the Young Playwright Theatre for young playwrights to be in support of their creative journey. -
Rhett Snotherly
The couple had gone to the same high school according to Stanford magazine and reconnected the year 1996 and later married in March in the year 1997. Still married to this day -
The sins of Sor Juana
Karen Zacarias's play "The Sins of Sor Juana" is one of Zacarias's first projects as she wrote this play in hopes of making her known to people in the U.S. as she discovered many did not know her story. This play earned Zacarias awards such as The Helen Hayes Award and The Charles MacArthur Prize for Outstanding New Play -

Nico Zacarias was born in 2002 to both parents Rett Snotherly and Karen Zacarias. Nico is an artist himself as a songwriter and singer. -
