K-12 Educational Timeline

  • Kindergarten

I remember doing a play for Thanksgiving where I was dressed up like a Pilgrim and tried cornbread for the first time. A picture of me made it into the newspaper (I think my mom still has the clipping somewhere).
  • 1st Grade

Besides doing what I thought were really fun worksheets about letters and numbers, I would say the most memorable part of 1st grade for me was going to my 1st sleepover for New Years Eve and lighting off a bunch of fireworks because it was the start of a new millennium.
  • 2nd Grade

I was home schooled from 2nd grade to the very beginning of 5th grade with my twin sister, so I would say that my biggest memory of 2nd grade is starting school with just my sister as well as meeting with a home school group to do different school activities a few times a month.
  • 3rd Grade

I would say that my biggest memory from 3rd grade is watching the news coverage of the Twin Towers on 9/11.
  • 4th Grade

I remember learning long division in 4th grade as well as having to practice writing in cursive what felt like ALL of the time.
  • 5th Grade

My biggest memory of my 5th grade year was switching from home schooling back to public school. Once I was back I would say that the best memory I have of 5th grade is when we did a day long field trip/ activity called Pioneer Day. All 5th graders had to dress up in what pioneers would have worn and spent the day learning about what life was like in those days. We got to do hands on activities like making candles and sewing quilt squares.
  • 6th Grade

This was the first day of middle school for me, so there are many memories that stick out to me. I had a wonderful science teacher in 6th grade who was very quirky. I remember she had her whole room decorated in a cow theme and she had a pet piranha name Yoda. The best memory I have from her class is when we got to learn how to set up an archaeological dig site and excavate artifacts/log them correctly.
  • 7th Grade

My grade got to have a day where the school put on a Renaissance Fair for all of the 7th grade Social Studies classes. I remember getting to learn about the time period as well as watch demonstrations on activities like archery and music.
  • 8th Grade

The event that comes to my mind when I think about 8th grade is that we lost one of our classmates in a car accident right before Christmas break.
  • 9th Grade

I got to take my first foreign language class starting in 9th grade. I chose to take Spanish and I remember being really excited to be able to learn another language.
  • 10th Grade

I remember going to see my school's production of Les Miserables, which was put on by some of the school's best singers/actors. I would definitely say it was one of my favorite memories of 10th grade.
  • 11th Grade

My favorite classroom memories from 11th grade came from my chemistry class. Most of my classmates and I were exempt from our spring semester test, so our teacher brought in liquid nitrogen and let us freeze random things as well as 'blow up' some pop bottles outside of the school.
  • 12th Grade

It was hard to pick which memory to focus on for my senior year, so I chose one from one of my classes (since most of my memories were not from the classroom). In my AP Lang class I remember having a really fun project where we had to create an ad, so my group decided to make a stop motion video ad for a product we made up from a video game we all liked. Our video was a 'claymation,' so I remember spending a lot of time not only writing our script but also making the figures for our video.
