  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    -The battle took place on the North Side of Boston Harbor (Charleston Penninsula)
    -British General: Major General Howe
    Continental Army: General Artemas Ward and General Israel Putnam
    -The battle was considered to be won by the American Continental Army, however, the British put up a very strong battle.
    -2,400 British troops fought in the battle, while only 1,500 American troups fought
    -1,150 British soldiers were killed or wounded. Only 450 American soldiers were killed or wounded
  • Battle of Long Island

    Battle of Long Island
    -Fought in New York
    -Battle was won by the British, driving the Americans out of New York
    -Generals: Major Lord General Howe (British Army), George Washington (American Continental Army)
    -There were double the British troups fighting in the battle, 20,000, with only 10,000 American troups
    -400 British casualties, 2,000 American casualties
    -This battle marked the final one in which George Washington was miserably defeated, after this battle, Washington changed his stradegy for battle.

    -American troups (2,400) outnumbered the British troups (1,400)
    -The battle was won by the Americans
    -This battle marked somewhat of an "adrenalin rush" for the Americans.

    -The British started this battle in an attempt to get back at the US.
    -The goal was to take over Philadelphia, which was at the time the US capital
    -The British took the US by suprise, attacking at dawn and leading the Continental Army to be unprepared. The British won the battle

    -The British outnumbered the Americans greatly
    -The British had far more weapons and materials to fight with
    -The Americans had a disadvantage in that they were clothed minimally The Americans won the battle
  • Battle of Momnouth

    -Generals: George Washington (US), Earl Cornwallis (British)
    -The Americans outnumbered the British troups with 11,000 men, while the British only had 10,000
    -Mary Ludwig Hays, commonly know as Molly Pitcher, became known for her participation in this battle
    -The Americans had more casualties, but the Americans also took the land The battle is considered to be a draw
  • Capture of Savannah

    -Generals: Robert Howe (American), Archibald Campell (Britian)
    -This was a suprise attack on the Continental Army
    -As many as 3600 British troups may have stormed Savannah, but only as many as 650-900 troups were Americans able to defend
    -The majority of American troups were captured or killed, while only 3 British troups died The British succesfully took over Savannah

    -The battle inspired many militia to join the army
    -It brought a sense of hope to the people of the United States
    -The US reclaimed South Carolina The US was the winner of the Battle of Cowpens
  • Battle of Guilford Court House

    Battle of Guilford Court House
    Generals: Lord Cornwallis (British), Nathaniel Greene (US)
    -The British found themselves very outnumbered (4,400 to 1,900)
    -After this Cornwallis moved his way to Virginia, only to soon have to surrender in Yorktown
    -More than 25% of the British troups were killed in this battle (550 total dead) Despite being very outnumbered, the British prevailed to win the battle
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Generals: George Washington (US), Lord Cornwallis (British)
    -This battle would end the Revolutionary War
    -Out of about 8,000 British soliders, 7,700 were left at the end of the battle
    -George Washington was very aggressive in his attacks of the British, having an advantage being higher up on the hill The United States won the battle
