James Prescott Joules was born in Salford, Greater Manchester of the United Kingdom.

In 1838, his first scientific papers on electricity were contributed to Annals of Electricity, the scientific journal founded and operated by Davies's colleague William Sturgeon. -

Interest
Joule's interest in energy lead him publishing results of an experiment of the heating effect in 1843 -
24 years old
One of Joule's presentation was attended by William Thomson.Thomson was intrigued about Joule's work and they met a year later -
Marriage
James married a woman called Amelia Grimes and they went on a honeymoon. -

In 1851, Thomson made a paper saying he was willing to go no further than a compromise. Joules read the paper and wrote to Thomson. The two soon did experiments and Thomson analysed and suggested further experiments -
collaboration
The collaboration lasted from 1852 to 1856, its discoveries including the Joule-Thomson effect, and the published results did much to bring about general acceptance of Joule's work -
Green Flash phenomenon
Joule is attributed with explaining the Green Flash phenomenon in a letter to the Manchester Literary and Philosophical Society in 1869. -
