John Polkinghorne was born on October 16th 1930 – still alive. -
Education and work
Has several degrees, starting in 1952 with a bachelors and a master’s degree in mathematics and two doctorates one in quantum field theory and one in theoretical elementary particle physics at Trinity College where he went on to become a professor in Mathematical physics. After 23 years of teaching, he decided it was time to move on. In 1979 be ended his career as a professor to begin his studies in Theology. -
Faith
First, he became a priest at the church of England moving through the phases of a parish priest, vicar and then Dean of Trinity Hall to President of Queens College.
Became a member of the Royal society for his work on quantum particles. Another member of the Royal Society is Isaac Newton. Published several books on the relationship of faith and science. -
Summary
He was able to combine science and faith. Felt that both science and religion can work together rather then being against each other. If the experience of science teaches anything, it's that the world is very strange and surprising. The many revolutions in science have certainly shown that.~ John Polkinghorne
