Early Life
John was the son of George Polkinghorne and Dorothy Charlton. George working in the post office, and Dorothy was the daughter to a horse trainer and rider. John was the youngest other three children with one older brother, Peter, and one sister Ann who died at the age of six months. John was born 16OCT1930 -
School
John attended a public school in his early years but quickly feel behind the learning curve so his parents began homeschooling him until the age of seven where the enrolled him in the Quaker school, but the school only accepted students who were at least eleven years of age so John was then enrolled in Elmhurst Grammar School.
Peter joined the Royal Air Force shortly after and John remained in Elmhurst during the time of the war. -
College
In OCT1949 John enrolled in Trinity College, Cambridge where he studied mathematics and specialized in quantum mechanics. While in college John met a woman by the name of Ruth Martin who also studied mathematics, their friendship blossomed and they were married on 26 March 1955. -
Author
John became a famous author with over twenty eight books published. The books he wrote were a wide range between educational from his specialty is quantum mechanics, mathematics, and others dealt with his studies is religion. John took up a position in Cambridge at his university as a lecturer were he remained to upwards of twenty years (1958-1979). In 1977 John decided to switch careers and enter Ministry. -
Awards
John was recognized for his extreme devotion to Science, Religion, and Mathematics. John was also recognized through out his years at Cambridge as a lecture for his dedication to his students and their studies. He was recognized for outstanding service and commitment to their education. John was also recognized for the research level texts he wrote and publishes to help students during their course of studies.
