Night of Assassination
Mark David Chapman shot 5 bullets at John Lennon. 1 hitting the window of the Dakota apartment building. 2 hit John's shoulder blade and the other 2 hit him in the back. John then staggered up the Dakota's stairs and collapsed as he walked in. The police arrived and realized that John would need to be taken to the hospital in the back of the police car because if they waited for the ambulence, John would never have made it. John died at the arrival of the hospital. -
John taken to the hospital
After being shot by Mark David Chapman, John was taken to St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center. He was pronounced dead on arrival. -
Strawberry Fields "Funeral"
Yoko Ono said that there would be no funeral for John. She asked fans to observe 10 minutes of silent prayer in Lennon's memory. A memorial garden named Strawberry Fields was made in Central Park right across the street from the Dakota apartment building where John was killed. Yoko had John's body cremated so that she could scatter the ashes in the Strawberry Fields. -
John Lennon Museum
Yoko Ono created a museum for John Lennon after his death at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This museum contains his blood-stained glasses and the Dakota apartment building window with the bullet shot through it.
