    John Lennon Birth and Childhood
    The legend and inspirational man was born on October 9th, 1940, in Liverpool, England. His family was working class and his parents split before he was two (Ono, "John Lennon Biography"). His father deserted the family when John was 3 (Ledbetter, Les).
    He lived with his Mother's sister, Mimi Smith. His mother was killed in a car accident when he was 17 (Ono, "John Lennon Biography").

    Schooling

    Mr. Lennon attended secondary school in Liverpool and then went on to Liverpool College of Art (Ledbetter, Les).
  • Music Beginnings

    John Lennon's mother buys him his first guitar. Lennon formed the group Quarrymen with some of his friends, Pete Shotton, Nigel Whalley and Ivan Vaughn ("Lennon's Lifeline:1940-1980").
    A year later, Lennon met McCartney at a church social in Liverpool, England. They started to perform as a duo, called the Silver Beetles and in three years were joined Harrison, Stu Sutcliff and later Pete Best (Weil, Martin).
  • Beatles form

    Sucliff leaves the group and The Beatles debut at the Cavern Club in Liverpool, England. In 1963, The Beatles begin their first U.K. tour. In August, they finish the tour at the Cavern Club after nearly 300 performances ("Lennon's Lifeline:1940-1980").
  • First Marriage and Son Born

    Lennon marries former college classmate, Cynthia Powell and a year later their first son was born, John Charles Julian Lennon ("Lennon's Lifeline:1940-1980").
  • The Beatles arrive in the US

    At arrival,The Beatles were greeted by 3.000 teenage fans at the American airport. They were known for popularizing rock 'n roll in Britain and their different looks of shaggy,long hair and tight pants.They were set on their first U.S. tour and made their debut on The Ed Sullivan Show and had a succesful two performances in two weeks. Their single "I Want to Hold Your Hand," was number one on the best selling record list (Gardner, Paul).
  • Beatles Break up

    After their break up, Lennon continued writing songs and recording. But in 1975 he dropped out for five years, saying he wanted to be with his son and his wife (Weil, Martin).
  • Second Marriage

    Lennon marries Yoko Ono in Gibraltar. A year earlier, his wife Cynthia Lennon filed for divorce. Paul McCartney wrote "Hey Jude" to comfort Cynthia and John's son, Julian.
  • Life After the Beatles

    Lennon's response to the Vietnam War was peace activism. Lennon and Yoko were a part of a series of protests called bed-ins. The idea was to promote peace by staying in bed instead of fighting. He also promoted peace in his music that he
    composed.
  • Death

    John Lennon was assasinated outside his apartment in Manhattan by Mark David Chapman (Ledbetter, Les). Lennon imagined a world where people overthrew the corrupt authority and created a world full of compassion and love. His death was a tragedy for the world and impacted many.
