Hunter came to London in 1748 at the age of 20 years old. He worked as an assistant in the Anatomy school. His elder brother, William was already a trained physician and obsterician, John learnt how about human anatomy and how to perform deissection and how to prepare specimens under the supervision of his brother William. -

Became an Army surgeon and spent three years in France and Portugal. Hunter developed new techniques/ treatment for gun shots wounds and venereal disease. -

In 1763 Hunter returned to England and started to build his private pratice. -

Hunter became a Fellow of the Royal society in 1767 as a reward for his scientific work. -

Hunter moved into a large house in Leiceester Square and arranged a teaching museum for his students there. Edward Jenner was one of Hunter's students. -

John Hunter died on the 16th of October 1793. He had a fit during an argument and died from it. Hunter was known as the founder of "scientific surgery". His collection of specimens were bought by the government in 1799 and given to the Royal coolge of surgeons.
