1890 Traditionalists, Romantics, and Dewey
Dewey's educational philosophy emerged during a fierce 1890's debate between educational "romantics and traditionalists. Romantics urged a "child-centered" approach. Their claims were that a childs natural implulse provided educaion to proper starting points. Traditionalists pressed for a "curriculum-centered" approach. Dewey developed an interactional model to move beyond that debate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGjSMqwlP3E
