St. Ignatius College
Fr. John B. Neustich, S.J., is appointed President of St. Ignatius College, what would later become John Carroll University -
Construction Begins
Construction begins on a two-story frame of the original classroom building of the College and later as the gymnasium -
The College Opens
St. Ignatius College opens with 76 students in the first class. -
Southwestern Wing Completed
The southewestern wing of the permanent building is completed. -
Gymnasium Built
A new gymnasium is built on Carroll Avenue, and the original building is torn down. -
Football comes to Carroll
John Carroll joins the collegiate football leagues, and now has a football team. -
Land purchased that houses the present campus
60 acres in Idlewood Village, (now Univerity Heights), are purchased for the present day campus. -
College renamed to John Carroll University
The College is renamed John Carroll University after the first American Bishop. -
Pledges received for new campus
Pledges in the amount of $2,541,382 are secured to build a new campus on 45 acres of John Carroll's land. -
New Campus Construction Begins
Construction on the new campus begins. -
The Great Depression Delays Construction
The great depression hits Cleveland hard and many investors put their contributions on hold, causing construction on the campus to be suspended -
Construction Resumes
Construction on the new campus is able to resume. -
Student's Residence Hall
The student's residence hall is ready. -
War Time Closes Campus
Campus closes due to the war, and the Navy ises campus to conduct its V-12 program until 1945. -
Temporary Gymnasium Erected
The temporary gymnasium is used as the School of Business -
Pacelli Hall is constructed
Pacelli hall is constructed, followed by Dolan hall in 1955, a new gymnasium in 1957 and a student activities building in 1959. -
$19.5 Million Decade of Progress Development Program Launches
John Carroll launches this program to expand academic, recreational and residential facilities. -
Bohannon Science Center
A million-dollar donation is received courtesy of Cleveland industrialist James A. Bohannon, and construction of the Bohannon Science Center Begins. -
JCU Becomes a Coeducational University
Women are permitted to become on-campus residents. -
Miller Hall is Built
South Hall is built, which is later renamed Miller Hall. -
1984
The Mellon Foundation of Cleveland gives a $2.1 million grant to finance the School of Business. -
Lots of Construction
Hamlin Hall, Bruening Hall, Nathan Dauby Plasa and the renovation of the School of Business are all completed. Also, Schott Hall is completed, which accommodates several hundred people at a time for dining. -
Center for Communications and Language Arts
The T.P. O'Malley, S.J. Center for Communications and Language Arts is completed. -
$50 Million Capital Campaign
Money to fund the addition of major building facilities is secured. -
Dolan Science Center Funded
Charles and Helen Dolan pledge $20 million toward the construction of the new science and technology center. -
Renovation of Athletic Facilities
Athletic facilities are renovated including construction on the new John Shula Stadium. -
Dolan Sciance Center Opens along with revamped Athletic Facilities
