John Dupre
John Dupre was born in Pembury, Kent, England 3 July 1952. His area(s) of the study were and/or are as a philosopher of science focusing on the philosophy of biology. -
Early Career
He worked as a junior research fellow at St. John’s College in Oxford from 1980 to 1982. He then held a few different positions at Stanford University in California; from an assistant professor from 1982 to 1989, an associate professor from 1989 to 1995, and as professor of philosophy from 1975 to 1996. -
Education
He received his Ph.D. from Cambridge in 1981 after studying in the United States for a couple of years. -
Early Works
The Disorder of Things Metaphysical Foundations of the Disunity of Science, John Dupre’s book brings forth arguments against reductionism or the philosophical process used to interpret and understand something complex, such as the universe, under the context of its simpler parts. -
Later/Current Career
In 1996 John Dupre moved to London where he works as a professor at London University. He is also a senior research fellow at the University of Exter since 1996, a professor of philosophy since 2000, and the Director of the Exter Genomics Research Institute since 2002. -
