Joan of Arc birthday

Joan of Arc was born on January 6, 1412. Her parents were Jaques d'Arc and Isabelle Romee. They lived in Domremy, France, which is located on the western bank of the Meuse River. When she was born, the 100 Years War was going on, and she would become a very important peron and win important battles (Lace 26).

University of St. Andrews

University of St. Andrews is the oldest of the four oldest universities in Scottland,and the third oldest English speaking university in the world. Its motto is Ever to Excel.

Forbidden City

The Forbidden City was built by the Ming Dynasty. It is located in Beijing, China. The consturction lasted 15 years, and now is a museum (Grun 204).

Georg von Peuerbach

May 30, 1423

On May 30, 1423, Georg von Peuerabach is born. He is an Austrian astronomer, and mathematician. He is best known for his streamlined presentation of Ptolemaic Astronomy in the Theoricae Novae Planetarum (Grun 1423).

Hearing Voices

When Joan was 13, she started to hear voices. These voices were the voices of Saint Micheal the Archangel, Saint Catherine of Alexanderia, and saint Margret. These voices would infulence Joan to start fighting in the war and become a leader ("Becoming a Saint").

Hubert van Eyck, a Dutch painter died. He died in Ghent, Belgium. None of his works survived (Grun 204).

Chinon

Mar 6, 1429

On March 6, 1429, Joan entered the city of Chinon. She needed to deliver a message to King Charles. He had feld there to try and avoid the war going on around him (Williams 50). The message she delivered was that, "God had called upon her to deliver France from English control" ("Satin Joan of...").

Siege of Orleans

May 8, 1429

King Charles gave Joan premission to go to Orleans, and take the city back from the English. She didn't arrvie until April 29, 1429. Over the course of 10 days, the French fought against the English, and on May 8, the siege was broken. The English lost a big, important city, and the French regained it. This inspired the French peopole to fight back against the Englsih more than before (Williams 52).

Captuiring the city of Jargeau

After the siege of Orleans was broken, Joan recruted more troops, and marched to the city of Jargeau, a town on the Loire River. This was another town that was being held by the English. From June 10-11, the French and English fought, and the French won. This is important becuause it was the start of a series of winnings for the French ("Time of the...").

Assult on Paris

Sep 8, 1429

Joan thought that it would be crucial to be in control of Paris. So her and her troops went to Paris on September 7, but didn't enter until the 8th. She demanded that they surrender to their rightful king. It was refused, and so fighting broke out. Joan was shot by an arrow, and carried away. A reteat was nessesary, but the French would win the city in a few days ("Timeline of the...").

Ottoman Empire arts

The Ottoman Empire, or known as the Turkish Empire, had many different arts. People were doing decritive arts, which was heavily affected by Persian arts. Some form of these arts are Byzantine tradition of illumination and painting (Grun 204).

Interrogations

This was the first of two interrogations. She had apublic interrogation. One of the last things she was told was that if she tried to escape again, she would be automatically convicted of heresy ("Joan of Arc...").

Captured

May 23, 1430

After winning many battles,Joan was captured by a group called Buigundians and was imporisoned. She was sold for 1,000 Francs to the English.This is important because she wasn't abke to fight for the French and had no way of escaping her imprisonment. The English tried her for witchcraft ("Joan of Arc...").

Death of Joan of Arc

Joan of Arc died May 30, 1431. She was burned at the stake . This took place at Rouen Marketplace.This was still during the 100 Years War. She was 19 years old (Lace 111).

Saint Joan of Arc

In 1856, Bishop Dupanluop of Orelans wanted to honor Joan for everything she did for France. So he made a petitionm and she was named a saint on the Roman Catholic Church. This title honors her and everything she did for France during the 100 Years War ("Becoming a Saint").
