    Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
    When I was first born, there was a clear relation to the last two levels of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs; safety needs and physiological needs. I needed someone to care for me, protect me, feed me, put me to sleep, etc.

    As well as needing food, I also needed to feel a sense of love and security. Studies have shown that security, comfort, and contact can be more appealing to an infant than food.

    Psychosexual Stages- Latency Stages

    When I got to Kindergarten, I began to slowly fend off my female friends, and began only associating with boys, really. I wouldn't really talk to girl who were my age, even if I had known them for years prior to kindergarten; it was all about hanging out with the fellow men. This lasted until Middle School, perhaps.
  • Bandura's Social Cognitive Approach- Self-Efficacy

    When I got to High School, I knew I wanted to do some sort of physical activity, but I wasn't quite sure. I ended up settling with cross-country and track. I began to gain a lot of confidence in my running abilities, and came to realize that I was not too shabby at track.

    When you ask someone out and they deny you, it hurts. That is why one may turn to defense mechanism, such as denial, to make themselves feel better. "She clearly is just too busy right now, it's not that she does not like me."

    It wasn't until a couple of years ago that I began to truly understand who I was, what I potentially want to be, what impact I want to make, and so on. With that, my self-esteem began to build.
